Few shows remain as relevant and impactful as Sons of Anarchy . The story of a gang of northern California biker outlaws quickly rose through the ranks and has since cemented itself as one of the greatest shows of all time.
Due credit given, by no means is it flawless. Incredible as it was, SOA had its fair share of glaring inconsistencies.

Sure, *Sons of Anarchy* is a great show (and, possibly, one of the greatest shows ever), but that doesn’t mean it is perfect.
In fact, it’s far from it. But we’re not here to look at any problematic subjects, or little mistakes editors didn’t catch.
We want to look at some plot holes, unanswered questions, and things that were never explained.
1. Gemma’s gift to Abel.
In a clearly symbolic act, Gemma passes a “SONS” ring to her oldest grandson.
This is with the implication that Abel is going to one day take Jax’s place. But there are a few problems with that.
This is a total 180, considering both Gemma and Jax were adamant about Abel not becoming a Son.
Gemma tends to go back and forth a lot about what she wants for her grandchildren. But at the end of the day, while she wanted them to keep close, she did want them out of the club.
2. What happened to the August Marks’ land deal?
The entire season literally hinges on this disputed land deal with August Marks. But, after the big bad passes, this just all goes away?
That’s a pretty lazy loose end to leave untied if I do say so myself.
It can be argued that, after Tara died, Jax just didn’t care about the deal.
3. Does or doesn’t Wayne have cancer?
This key fact quickly becomes a side note as seasons go on. In the first season of the show, Wayne says his doctors have given him months to live.
Clearly his prognosis was incorrect.
4. Juice’s betrayal makes no sense.
Juice begins working with the police because they threaten to reveal that his father is half-black. This “club rule,” however, is a relic of a forgotten time.
Chibs tells Juice that half the club members don’t even know who their fathers are. Pretty stupid move – even for Juice.
5. How could such a huge operation exist in Charming?
Charming, CA is a fictionalized small town of fewer than 20,000 people.
How on earth would an MC that makes as much noise as SAMCRO be able to go about their operations without anyone noticing faster?
Even with the agreement that most (but not all) of their business is outside the town, it’s impossible to believe that the people of the town are okay with this arrangement for so long.
Especially as things get worse and worse.
But in all honesty, it’s probably just for storytelling purposes.
6. Why would the IRA work with SAMCRO?
So we’re supposed to believe that one of the largest and most secretive terrorist organizations in the entire world is letting these leather-clad motorheads run their guns?
I don’t think so. John Tellers’ ties to SAMBEL are equally as murky.
7. Even though the agreements happened long before Jax was even born, why on earth would it stay that way?
Times change, so do people, and so do politics.
It’s hard to believe that their agreement would never have shattered.
8. What actually happened to John Teller?
Boy, did they ever flip-flop on this one? First, it’s heavily implied that, not only was John murdered, but that Clay was the one responsible (with the help of Gemma?).
But in the later seasons, it’s hinted that John killed himself.
9. Undercover CIA in the cartel?
Season 4 saw some drastic changes to SAMCRO: their operation got bigger and the consequences of their actions became much more violent.
Revealing that the cartel was CIA all along made zero sense, and destroyed basically every single subplot of the season.
It erased a ton of the stories that were trying to be played out, and it basically just turned into a get out of jail free card.
So maybe not a true plot hole, but definitely one that made the plot make less sense.
10. Why does anyone want to be a member of SAMCRO?
Dead wives. Dead children. Dead cousins, brothers, uncles, sisters, brothers… You get the point. If you hang around SAMCRO long enough, you wind up dead.
How has no one else clued into this fact?
11. What’s with Jax’s limp?
In one of the final moments in the series, Jax can be seen walking with a strange unexplained limp.
It turns out it came as a result of a real-life accident ! Charlie Hunnam injured the foot while on set.
12. Why are there no women on motorcycles?
This one seems pretty glaring, but how is it that in a show that revolves around a motorcycle gang, there isn’t a single shot of a woman on a bike?
In seven seasons?!
13. Who is Milo?
What was the point of showing Gemma meeting Milo? Furthermore, why was he the one with Jax in the end? There wasn’t anything special about him at all and he wasn’t a recurring character.
Also, why such a high profile actor in Michael Chiklis?
The actor is from another show called *The Shield*, and while only hardcore people would know that, this presented a plot hole for more casual viewers.
Most of us were just left wondering why on earth there was all this build-up, and he was left with a pretty unimportant role.
Who knows? Maybe he’ll return in the spinoff and all our questions will be answered.
14. Did Chibs kill Jarry?
The last time we ever see Jarry is when she tells Chibs about the APB the police have out for Gemma.
I hate to even think about it, but there is a nasty history of police officers disappearing after associating with the club…
15. Who was the homeless woman?
This is one of the great unanswered questions from the series.
Clearly, she is supposed to be some type of Jesus or Christ figure, but beyond that, it’s all up in the air.
I’m not even convinced she actually exists.
But if we follow the idea that the show is meant to represent Hamlet , we could assume that she is some kind of ghost.
Arguably, it wouldn’t even be the most unrealistic thing about the show.
