Recently, one fiancé shared that he has been having some trouble with the ring he proposed with.
The Reddit user shared that he and his girlfriend of 5-years recently got engaged and they were over-the-moon happy about it. He also shared that he had spent $20,000 on the engagement ring for her—which, is a pretty high price.
His now-fiancé was pretty surprised by how much he had spent.
He claimed that his fiancé was shocked by how much he had spent on the engagement ring and for how many karats the ring was—3.6 karats. She also asked if the diamond was a natural or a lab-grown diet.

After finding out the ring was lab grown, she was unhappy.
The fiancé was really unhappy with the decision to get a lab-grown diamond, despite how much he had spent on it and how large the diamond is. And, on top of it, her family had helped him pick the ring out, too.
He has explained why he chose to get a lab-grown diamond.
“It is better for the environment, I know the exact origin of the stone, so I know it isn’t a conflict stone, and ultimately it is better value for the money and I wanted to get her the most beautiful ring possible,” he said.
He also explained that it is a real diamond, regardless.
The Reddit user explained to his fiancé that regardless, lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds and showed her the certificate. However, she keeps insisting that she can tell the difference between the lab-grown and the natural diamond.
Now, she wants to exchange the ring.
Now, his fiancé wants to exchange the ring for a natural diamond, saying she doesn’t want a lab-grown diamond at all. However, the Reddit user disagrees and thinks the natural diamond process and industry are disgusting.
Now, the two are fighting and not even sleeping together.
After he said no, his fiancé decided to stay with her parents and leave. The two have not come to terms with a decision and are continually arguing about it. He asked Reddit what he should do in this situation.
Everyone said that the Reddit user is “not wrong.”
“I can’t understand why you’d want to be with someone who is willing to actually end a relationship over a non-conflict diamond that was given to her out of love and a hope for a future together. Mind boggling to me how much of an A H she is being,” one person said.
Others said this is a “huge red flag.”
“This is a red flag. you might have to think about the sort of lifestyle she wants and what you can actually give. If someone is willing to end a relationship over materialistic things it’s not going to last unless you are a millionaire,” another shared.
However, one sided with the fiancé.
“The issue isn’t natural versus lab-grown. The issue is that you didn’t communicate and you didn’t ask her what she wanted. You don’t get to buy her your dream ring. You should buy her an equivalent of her dream ring,” said another.
At the end of the day, is it about the diamond or the commitment it represents? Maybe it’s time for a heart-to-heart instead of a sparkly debate.
