Last night we witnessed the first debate of the 2020 election, and it got off to a rather heated start as candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump’s discussions on such topics such as race, the pandemic, and the Supreme Court soon dissolved into bitter back-and-forths, repeated interruptions, and even taunts.
But nowhere was the mood of the evening more obvious than the moment when a clearly exasperated Biden finally snapped at his ever-interrupting opponent to “shut up, man.”

Although both presidential hopefuls interrupted each other last night, it was clear to everyone, including moderator Chris Wallace, that Trump spoke out of turn the most.
During some particularly heated discussions, the current POTUS appeared unable to bite his tongue and allow Biden his allotted two minutes, instead repeatedly cutting in to loudly talk over him.
More than once, Wallace had to actually give Biden some time back that had been taken from him during a Trump interruption.
Throughout the evening, Biden typically responded to Trump’s verbal intrusions with an eye roll, a sigh, or simply raising his voice in an attempt to be louder.
But at only about 18 minutes into the debate, it appeared the Democratic nominee had had just about enough.
As CBS News reported, while the pair were discussing who should replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Biden’s turn to speak was once again interrupted as Trump attempted to talk over him.
Without looking at the president, a visibly exhausted Biden implored of him, “Will you shut up, man?”
As Trump continued speaking and moderator Wallace attempted to regain control of the discussion, Biden added, “This is so unpresidential.”
“That was really a productive segment, wasn’t it?” he quipped when Wallace announced they would be moving on.
As of writing, #shutupman is still trending on Twitter as users continue to react to Trump’s interruptions and Biden’s response last night.
Picking up on this momentum, the Biden campaign store has started selling T-shirts with the phrase “Will You Shut Up, Man” superimposed over a photo of an unhappy-looking Trump.
The former vice president’s campaign is selling the shirts online for $30-33 USD.
