Just as we can observe in people, we’ll often find that certain things age better than others. After all, an object that’s just cluttering up a closet is going to have an altogether different experience in our lives than something that’s needed for manual labor.
But in much the same way that lightly using something over an extended period of time only slows down the wear-and-tear it goes through, anything that isn’t hermetically sealed is going to show its age eventually.
And as we’re about to see, some of the more intensely haggard items on this list have been through quite a lot.
Much like we tend to notice with keyboards, it’s often pretty easy to see what our most widely used buttons on a controller are.

Considering that most Playstation games use the X button as the main way of selecting menu options, it probably shouldn’t be so surprising that this would be the one to gets its marking worn off first.
Frankly, the user is just lucky it hasn’t gotten stuck in a depressed position, which is what led one of my controllers to start making my character randomly jump as a kid.
It’s kind of interesting how the damage on this staircase seems to increase as they descend.

Unless someone here makes a habit of skipping steps, wouldn’t we usually expect that the groove on the third step from the bottom would look similar to the neighboring ones?
I also can’t help but wonder what caused that big crack in the floor.
Ever since the uploader was two-years-old, they’ve had this toy Mini.

But while it’s only become a little grubby with some minor paint peeling in the time since, the toy car did leave at least one commenter a little concerned.
As they said , “If it is leaded paint, the dust that collects on it will also contain lead. All of these microparticles can get into the air and into your lungs.”
Judging by the fact that this is just an access card for a gym, the material it’s made of must be pretty flimsy.

And that seems especially evident given the fact that the uploader said they wished they achieved as many gains as the wear-and-tear on the badge might imply.
Farming is generally understood to involve a lot of hard work but that’s especially clear when you see what happens to the tools involved.

For instance, one might expect from looking at them that these old tiller blades have at least a few years of use behind them.
In reality, it only took them one summer to look like this.
We tend to expect pots to get a little scratched on the inside but they really show their age when you look at the bottoms.

And as we can see, it couldn’t be easier to tell the brand new pot from the one that’s seen heavy use for the last five years.
Although these old Vans had lasted this woman a few years before she replaced them in 2017, it’s apparently tough to remember exactly how many.

Some commenters were impressed that she made them last longer than three or four months but she said it helps that she’s doesn’t skate in them.
Ever since they finished Basic Training, this army vet has worn this on their key chain.

And considering that we’re talking about 11 years in this case, it’s not hard to see why so many of the letters would have smoothed out by now.
It’s still mostly readable, though.
This photo shows the extent that this work glove has faded in the past three months.

And considering that I’ve seen a lot of similar gloves show their insides in the same amount of time, it seems that either this person has taken exceptional care of them or their job isn’t as grueling as it could be.
It’s always oddly bittersweet when something that has faithfully served you for years finally gives up the ghost.

In this case, these nail clippers were able to hang around for about eight years before this important part of them finally fell apart.
In one picture, we’re seeing decades of tradition unfold.

You might have noticed the retro aesthetic on the newer-looking windup toy and it’s because the uploader’s mom received essentially the same model as a kid during the 1960s.
As for the new one? That’s for the uploader’s toddler.
When a phone case manages to last for four and a half years, it defintely makes itself easy to aprpeciate.

And of course, that’s a pretty long period of time for something we’re prone to fumble so often. So it’s hardly a surprise that it would be so scratched up by now.
It kind of works with the skull, though.
I somehow consistently manage to find a way to find exactly the wrong way to sit and damage the arms of my office chairs, so I’m quite impressed that this person managed to avoid the same fate for so long.

Because while none of mine have ever looked as beat up as the piece on the bottom, that’s probably because I haven’t managed to make one of those chairs last 20 years like the uploader did.
Bronze objects can get a little shiny when they make contact with our skin enough times but that’s far from the heaviest damage our constant use of them can do.

As we can see, someone has relied on this piano’s sustainer pedal enough while playing that they’ve managed to bore a hole into it.
Even after a decade, I can’t say my fingers have pounded a keyboard enough to make this happen.

Nonetheless, it appears that this store has seen enough business in that time to punch a hole into the key’s inner workings.
It’s kind of cool looking, honestly.
When the Apple Watch first came out, this person was lined up and raring to get one.

And while the watch unit itself seems to have held on pretty well in the five years since, the same can’t be said for the strap. At least that makes an excuse to try out the new version.
After you use one for long enough, it’s almost inevitable that your laptop’s track pad will look like this.

And the longer it’s used after this point, the larger that worn-out groove in the middle is likely to get.
This IT technician’s company provides these little canvas bags as pocket protectors and the condition of the old one makes it easy to see why.

For the last two years, they’ve been working to upgrade a national restaurant chain’s internet services and in that time, the bag has seen a lot of exploding pens and scissor pokes that otherwise would’ve wrecked this person’s pants.
As the uploader explained, “Same hat 11 years apart. One worn everyday and to multiple concerts, knocked off my head in multiple mosh pits and then trampled before getting it back. The other pristine and never worn.”

And if you’re wondering why the old one looks like it has blood on it, that’s both because the band GWAR loves spraying their audiences with fake blood and because the uploader likes attending horror events.
So it’s safe to say that hat has had some wild adventures.
While this worn-out patch likely suggests this man has been working here for a long time, it might still be a surprise to find out just how long.

As it turns out, he’s been sitting and working in more or less the same spot for the last 40 years. That’s certainly enough time to make a big groove like this.
