Some people consider fruit to be an acceptable dessert replacement. You can still satisfy your sweet tooth, and it’s a healthier sugar option as opposed to devouring a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Netflix and Chill’d ice cream ( apparently ).
To really lean into the idea, some fruits even look like more traditional desserts, like Saturn peaches.
Normally when we think of peaches, we picture an orange fuzzy heart-shaped sphere, about the size of a tennis ball.

That’s not the case for Saturn peaches.
This type of peach actually looks like a donut, which is why they’re also called “donut peaches.”

These aren’t genetically modified in any way, either. Their shape is au natural, well, with some hybridized tweaks made by creator Jerry Frecon.
Fun fact: this variety was actually brought straight from China over a century ago. Jerry and colleague Dr. Fred Hough loved them, but wanted to create a hardier frost-resistant trees that produced tastier and larger fruit.
The peaches are flat in shape with a pretty orange and yellow color, and their high sugar content makes them super sweet.

Because of their flat shape and “dimpled” center, they’re actually a lot easier and less messy to eat than regular peaches.
We’re in the thick of donut peach season, people, so definitely look out for these on your next trip to the grocery store to give them a try!

They may not be real donuts, but they sure make eating fruit much more fun.
