Gender reveal parties are a relatively recent concept that quickly turned controversial. Whether they’re starting wildfires or stirring up ethical issues when it comes to non-binary people, sometimes it seems like they’re more trouble than they’re worth.
A recent TikTok video shows an unexpected downside of gender reveals: accidentally spoiling the big reveal.

TikToker @creativemuse_ can do all sorts of creative things with balloons. One such thing is filling balloons with colored glitter or powder, the kind that’s often used to reveal a baby’s gender to the surprise of its parents.
You can probably see where this is going.
She shared this video.
Aptly titled “I hate myself”, she tells a brief story of a gender reveal party she was hired for.
“A lady asked for a gender reveal balloon, and she said, ‘What’s in it, glitter?'” @creativemuse_ explained. “I said, ‘It’s blue powder. Oh my god. Blue!”
She ruined the surprise.
I don’t know if the mom-to-be was testing her or what, but if so, it’s safe to say that she failed the test. After all, the parents aren’t supposed to know their baby’s gender until the balloon is popped.
What was the reaction?
Thankfully, it sounds like the mom-to-be took the whole thing with good humor.
“She was totally fine with it, and laughed,” explained @creativemuse_. “She said, ‘Let’s just keep it a secret for hubby and the rest.’ She was so amazing.”
All’s well that ends well.
Knowing that the mom-to-be took the whole thing with good humor is kind of a relief. We’ve heard of bridezillas before, but I’m sure that momzillas are also a thing when it comes to gender reveal parties.
