For many people, they live the entire year looking forward to one occasion. For some, it’s Christmas. For others, it’s New Year’s. But for many, that occasion is Halloween. The return of the fall season and the leaves on the ground mean that it’s time to decorate the house by getting our ghosts and pumpkins out of the attic.
This year, Halloween is looking a little different.
With the coronavirus pandemic still happening, many people are having to change the way they do everyday things. For many, annual holiday traditions will have to change because of social distancing guidelines.
Everyone knows that the best part of Halloween is trick-or-treating.
Watching our kids get dressed up in their costumes and go all over our neighborhoods to get all the candy they can is a tradition we all love. (Mostly because we get to sneak into their bags and eat our favorites when they go to bed.)
The coronavirus is making it hard for parents to feel comfortable taking their kids out and about this Halloween.
With social distancing requirements, it’s hard to have kids so close to others to get their candy. Not to mention, many parents may feel uncomfortable with taking candy that others have touched — even if it’s wrapped.
One couple has found a way to keep the spirit of Halloween alive and well, even during the pandemic, and we can’t help but love it.
Jaimie and Jay run a YouTube channel called Wicked Makers, where they talk all about their love for Halloween and spooky season. In their midst of all their enjoyment, they came up with a great way to keep trick-or-treating safe for kids.
The couple created a “slide” that allows for candy to safely reach trick-or-treaters from six feet away, which follows social distancing mandates.
While the project requires some do-it-yourself tools and creativity, the outcome is totally worth it for those who still wish to help the kids celebrate their favorite holiday.
All you really need are various sizes of PVC pipe and some spooky decorations.
PVC pipes give the slide its “slanted” nature and gives the candy transportation to reach the other side where the trick-or-treaters are waiting. The ghosts and mummies were added on with a handy, dandy glue gun.
