When a six-year-old daughter who communicates using ASL was denied entry to a private school, her parents weren’t sure what to do. After seeking advice from this subreddit and contacting a disability lawyer, the family had a stroke of luck. The private school agreed to pay for an interpreter, provide a free scholarship, and let the family choose their daughter’s teacher.
Two weeks into the school year, the daughter loves it and is able to communicate with classmates using sign language, although some of it is broken. Despite the obstacles, this family was able to make their daughter’s dreams come true.
