There’s no denying that Halle Berry has had one of the illustrious and successful acting careers in history.
She is a Hollywood household name. Not only is she one of the most beautiful woman alive, she is uber talented and has achieved historic career landmarks.
One of those landmark career achievements was taking home the 2002 Best Actress Oscar for Monster Ball .
Halle Berry is truly one of the most iconic and GORGEOUS faces in Hollywood. It’s called a fact, sweetie.
Her kiler acting chops and electric on-screen energy has propelled Halle into a career spanning nearly three decades.
In addition to her amazing career, Halle was the first Black woman to win an Academy Award for Best Actress, and 18 years later, she still is the only one to do so.

Of course, lots of black women have taken home Oscars since Halee’s win —Jennifer Hudson, Mo’Nique, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Lupita Nyong’o and Regina King, but they were all winners in the Supporting Actress category.
Now, Halle is discussing her historic win in a new interview with Variety about her upcoming movie, *Bruised.*
She called the Oscar “one of [her] biggest heartbreaks,” due to the fact that she has no other black actress to share the title with nearly twenty years later.
She went on to list the Black actresses she thought should have taken home a gold statue for their leading performances.

“I thought Cynthia [Erivo] was going to do it last year.”
“I thought Ruth [Negga] had a really good shot at it too. I thought there were women that rightfully, arguably, could have, should have. I hoped they would have, but why it hasn’t gone that way, I don’t have the answer.”
Recalling the day after her historic win, Halle said: “The morning after, I thought, ‘Wow, I was chosen to open a door.’ And then, to have no one … I question, ‘Was that an important moment, or was it just an important moment for me?”
“I wanted to believe it was so much bigger than me.”
“Just because I won an award doesn’t mean that, magically, the next day, there was a place for me.”

“I thought, ‘Oh, all these great scripts are going to come my way; these great directors are going to be banging on my door.’ It didn’t happen. It actually got a little harder. They call it the Oscar curse.”
Thankfully, it’s clear Halle has beat the Oscar curse and has come out stronger because of it.
Now, Halle is making her directorial debut with her new film, Bruised . The film is set to release on September 12th and I, for one, can’t wait to watch it!
