Melania Trump is threatening Hunter Biden with a massive $1 billion lawsuit over something he said about her.
He claimed she had ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender, but her team says this is flat-out false.
Hunter Biden makes controversial claims
During an interview with filmmaker Andrew Callaghan, Hunter Biden said, “Epstein introduced Melania to Trump — the connections are so wide and deep,” and also suggested that so-called Epstein files would “implicate” President Trump.
Melania’s legal team pushes back
Her lawyers quickly shot back. According to the BBC, they sent Hunter a letter telling him to take back the statement, apologize, or be ready to face a $1 billion lawsuit.
They called what he said “false, disparaging, defamatory and inflammatory.”
The claims are linked to a journalist’s report
Part of Biden’s comments leaned on a claim from journalist Michael Wolff. He had once said in a Daily Beast interview that Melania was “known” to someone close to Epstein when she met Trump.
That interview was later deleted.
A story was pulled after legal threats
The Daily Beast ended up pulling the piece altogether after Melania’s lawyers also sent them a letter.
On the archived page, the outlet posted a note saying: “After this story was published, The Beast received a letter from First Lady Melania Trump’s attorney challenging the headline and framing of the article.
“After reviewing the matter, the Beast has taken down the article and apologizes for any confusion or misunderstanding.”
There is no evidence of Epstein’s role
So far, there’s no proof that Epstein ever introduced Melania to Trump. She has said the two of them first met in 1998 at a modeling agency party.
At the time, Melania was about 28 years old and Trump was 52.
Her lawyer issues a strong warning
When the BBC asked her lawyer, Alejandro Brito, about the threat of a lawsuit, he pointed them to a statement from Melania’s aide Nick Clemens.
It said: “First Lady Melania Trump’s attorneys are actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods.”
Epstein’s history continues to fuel controversy
Epstein had built a massive network of wealthy and powerful contacts before his crimes came out. He faced accusations of trafficking underage girls and even got a controversial plea deal back in 2008.
In 2019, he was arrested again on federal sex-trafficking charges. Just days later, he was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell. His death was officially ruled a suicide.
For years, rumors and conspiracy theories have swirled about an Epstein “client list” that supposedly named famous figures tied to his sex ring.
Trump shifts stance on Epstein files
As part of his 2024 campaign, Trump once promised to release documents connected to Epstein that were sealed by the courts.
But later, both he and Attorney General Pam Bondi backed off, with the FBI saying that no such list even exists.
Trump admitted he and Epstein were friends at one point, but said things fell apart after Epstein tried hiring away people who worked for him.
“He took people that work for me, and I told him, ‘Don’t do it any more’. And he did it. I said, ‘Stay the hell out of here’,” Trump told reporters.
