Our significant others can do a lot of things that embarrass us from time to time. When it’s in public, it’s definitely something that we cannot just “get over” or drop. Sometimes things cross the line and then there’s no turning back.
Recently, one wife on Reddit asked for advice after her husband embarrassed her.
“Me (31F) and My husband (35M) have been married for 14 months. He’s a middle-school teacher. Very close to his family. Loves to help out but can be firm at times,” she explained.
The wife goes on to say that her husband is especially close to his sister.
As she puts it, “He adores his 1.5-year-old niece. His sister’s baby. He always babysits whenever he’s got nothing to do. I help with whatever I can,” the wife wrote.
She went on to explain how it had been awhile since the two of them had an actual date night.
“I asked if we could go out to a new restaurant and try their food and have good time together. He agreed. I immediately made reservations and took care of everything.”
Since she was unable to get the day off, she decided to leave work early and meet her husband at the restaurant.
When she arrived, the wife noticed her husband sitting at a table, waiting for her. but as she approached, she was surprised to see that he wasn’t alone.
When she showed up, her husband had his niece with him.
“I walked in and saw my husband sitting and his niece in a car seat by the table. I asked and he said his sister had work and wanted him to watch his niece. “
Apparently, his family was out of town so there was no one else to watch the girl.
“I noticed the restaurant staff were giving us looks since it’s not a child-friendly restaurant and I was worried the baby [would] cry or something. She was asleep then,” she continued.
But, soon, his niece started getting restless.
The server came around to take their meals, just as the young girl started screaming and crying. “He kept asking the waitress about stuff they don’t have for his niece I couldn’t take the looks from people unable to enjoy their meals cause of the noise [my] husband’s niece was making.”
It was at this point that her husband did something truly unforgivable.
In the middle of the restaurant, surrounded by strangers looking to have a good meal, her husband started singing “You’re Welcome” from the movie Moana .
Which is a great song, don’t get me wrong, but probably not the best setting for it.
Unable to take the shame, the wife excused herself to use the restroom.
“Few [minutes] later I heard him arguing loudly. I went to see that he was actually trying to change his niece’s diaper on the table. The waitress was arguing with him. I was in shock.”
By now, the entire restaurant had noticed all the commotion.
The manager of the restaurant approached the wife’s husband, who explained that he still needed a minute to change the diaper. The restaurant manager then turned to the wife and politely asked her to leave.

As you might imagine, this led to a pretty heated argument outside.
According to the wife’s side of the story, “He started arguing with me like I was one of his students after I refused to get in the car. Giving me 0/10 for my reaction and claiming I picked a bad restaurant.”
Her husband explained that he was simply helping out his sister and that she needed to understand that.
“After the argument, I took an Uber and went home. He went to his sister’s place and called saying I shouldn’t have left like that and make him feel guilty for wanting to help. But I didn’t respond,” she said.
It was at this time that she decided to ask Reddit if she was wrong for leaving in an Uber and blowing up on her husband.
“Who tf changes a baby at a table and not in the restroom when they’re in public?” she bluntly asked. “Why does he act like his niece is his kid and bring her everywhere, especially when it’s clear you’re trying to have some time with just you and your husband?”
Most of the comments echo the same sentiment.
Many were quick to point out how wrong the woman’s husband was for not only embarrassing her but for trying to turn the tables and make her feel guilty.
“You need to have some serious talks with your husband and your SIL regarding boundaries and childcare bc this is 100% not okay,” one person wrote.
Others said some parents need to realize boundaries, even with kids.
“This is gross. Your husband should have given you the heads up so you could book a different restaurant or even declined his sister’s request because it was your date night.”
Another wrote “Thank you for being the only self-aware adult at that table. Some places are just not suitable for young children.”
One Reddit user also said that her husband needs to say “no” sometimes.
“Your husband is allowed to have his own life and occasionally say ‘no’ to his sister,” they explained. “It sounds like she and her daughter are more important to him than your marriage is. Marriage requires work, including the occasional time just for the two of you.”
They also pointed out how inappropriate it was for her husband to give her no advanced warning that his niece would be joining them.
