While going to the gym might not always be funny, no one expects tragedy to happen there.
When a bodybuilder passed away at a local gym in Perth, Australia, it was tragic enough. But then he wasn’t found for 15 hours. Here are the details of this sad story.
The man passed out while in the shower.

Giuliano Pirone was a 33-year-old Australian bodybuilder who often worked out at the local gym and used the facilities. At around 7:30 a.m., while working out at the 24-hour gym, he went into the locker room’s shower cubicle.
While in the shower, he fell unconscious and remained under the cold water for 15 hours before he was found.
His family alerted local authorities.

When Pirone’s family couldn’t reach him and hadn’t heard from home, they were concerned about his well-being. At around 3 p.m. that same day, they contacted the police.
The police eventually used a signal from his cell phone to locate him. They broke down the bathroom door to find him unconscious.
He died at the hospital.

Pirone suffered a traumatic brain injury while at the gym shower. So, while he was eventually discovered and taken to the hospital, he passed away two weeks later. It’s unclear whether he would have survived if he had been found sooner.
Regardless, the situation is quite tragic and disturbing.
There is an ongoing investigation into the Perth gym.

Given the tragic circumstances of Pirone’s death, an investigation is being held by WorkSafe WA into the gym. This investigation will determine if the gym is responsible for what happened.
Many people, particularly Pirone’s family, are confused about why he was in the shower that long without anyone at the gym noticing.
CCTV footage showed Pirone acting sick before entering the shower.

According to Daniela Pirone, Giuliano mother, footage from the gym showed him holding his stomach while on the treadmill and then staggering and bumping into things on the way to the shower.
It’s unclear how busy the gym was at the time or why employees or other customers didn’t notice a shower running for that long.
The victim’s family wants gyms to perform hourly checks of bathrooms.

In response to Pirone’s tragic death, his family is asking for hourly checks of gym bathrooms and showers to prevent this from happening again.
They are also asking 24-hour gyms to consider keeping staff on-site no matter the time of day or night.
Hopefully, this never happens to anyone else.

While a tragic accident or health issue is always upsetting, it’s even worse that Giuliano was left alone for that long.
His family acted quickly when they couldn’t locate him, but it seems like this sad story could have been partially prevented by better regulations at the 24-hour gym.
