Who doesn’t dream of finding a large sum of money? While this dream is unlikely to happen for most of us, one lucky man discovered $7 million in a storage unit he purchased for just a few hundred.
Here’s what you need to know about this lucky man and his story.
Many people purchase abandoned storage units.

When someone rents a storage unit and doesn’t pay, sometimes the storage company will auction off the units to try and get back some of the lost funds.
Perhaps, you’ve seen this happen on Storage Wars, which shows dedicated storage unit buyers who hope to find unique or expensive finds inside.
Most people end up purchasing a storage unit that’s not worth much money.

On the TV show, they feature more interesting finds inside storage units. It’s rare in real life to find a unit that has anything worth tons of money. And, even in the television series, most people aren’t lucky enough to find millions of dollars waiting in the storage unit.
But, one man found a dream come true inside.

Dan Dotson, the auctioneer for Storage Wars, sold a storage unit to an unnamed man. Inside the unit, there were safes. But Dotson says that most of the time, safes inside units are empty. Well, not this time!
While the man only purchased the storage unit for $498, inside the safe was over 7 million bucks.
The man and his wife had experts open the safe.

As they explored the storage unit, they found a locked safe. They had to enlist experts to crack it open and see what was inside. What they found was about $7.5 million dollars in cash.
While finding any money in the safe would have been exciting, it’s hard to imagine finding that much cash. It’s even harder to imagine why someone would put that much money in a storage unit and leave it there without paying the rent.
The original owners wanted the money back.

The owners of the cash offered the couple $600,000 to return the rest of the money. Then, they doubled their offer to $1.2 million.
The couple returned most of the money but still made bank.

So, after only paying around $500, they became millionaires! That’s still so much money.
While they may not have received all the cash, it’s hard to complain.

While $7.5 million is still a lot more than $1.2 million, they still got extremely lucky. They could have tried to keep the money by hiring their own lawyer, but it could have been a long, drawn-out process. Perhaps they wouldn’t have been allowed to keep any of the money at all.
So, taking the offer seems like a good move.
Would you have tried to keep all the money?

After all, finders keepers, right?
