Job interviews can be incredibly stressful situations. You have, usually, just one chance to make a face to face impression. And when you really want the job, it’s hard not to worry about how one little slip-up could ruin your chances.
HR specialist Tani shared a fascinating video on TikTok in which she shared what are, in her expert opinion, five “gutsy” questions all applicants should ask a job interviewer.
Is there anything about my background that makes you hesitant to move forward in the interview process?
This is a somewhat open-ended question, perhaps by design. You’re basically asking the interviewer if you’ll fit in at the new workplace.
This might also serve as a reminder to take a glance at your social media, because you can bet employers will.
How does my background compare to other candidates you’re interviewing?
There’s always post-interview anxiety, where you’re wondering how you stack up. If you receive an honest answer to this question, some of that anxiety can be alleviated.
I know that the pandemic has caused unprecedented disruptions for many companies. How are you, as a manager, doing?
This is a good way to not just acknowledge the wild circumstances of 2020 and 2021, but also to gently gauge the manager’s level of competence. And, at the same time, it’s a humane, compassionate question to ask.
