I don’t mean to sound like a crotchety old complainer here, but I think we can all agree that things have certainly changed a lot since we were kids.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying one upbringing is any better than the other. Older generations have and always will look down on younger ones and condemn them, just for being born in a different time. But I don’t think that’s really fair.
So rather than tell kids these days that they have it too easy, or shout at them to get off their phones, I’d rather take a look back at the way things used to be so we can all have a good laugh together.
Remember these?

Sure you do. There’s just something so supremely satisfying about emphasizing your frustration with a hearty hang-up, isn’t there?
That’s the same reason why I miss flip phones. You never know what you have until it’s gone. And until you can’t snap your phone shut while someone’s still talking.
Remember when *you* were the remote control?

Honestly, I don’t really miss this one. I much prefer having a physical remote, although I could do without having twenty different ones just to control one TV.
Remember when sharing information was strictly through word-of-mouth?

Honestly, I don’t really miss this one either. Sure, I don’t love all the pointless social media posts updating me on how Kathy’s Saturday morning went, or telling me that Brenda found a fabulous new pair of boots at the mall ( “half off!!” ).
But I do like being able to tell other people these things about myself. What can I say? I love attention.
Remember when there was no expectation tied to doing chores?

The only money I actually remember receiving from my parents as a kid was whenever I lost a tooth. Of course I got some pocket change if I was going to the mall with friends, but I really can’t recall ever getting an actual “allowance” from them.
Y’all were getting paid to wash dishes, huh? Not gonna lie, I feel sort of ripped off.
