It’s spring, that wonderful time where the world’s made new and suddenly your home looks…somewhat tired? All that sunlight streaming through the windows is picking up on the dust and the winter parkas aren’t covering up everything anymore.
It’s time for spring cleaning, and it’s also a perfect time to try out a new DIY project. So many people have scuffed old dressers they don’t know what to do with, so whether you already have one or are considering getting one super cheap, take a look at these DIY ideas to upcycle your dresser.
1. Use some old shutters to turn your dresser into a slick cabinet.

The whitewash paint in this DIY really gives a lovely texture to the cabinet, and you can add some slim boards on either sides of the shutters if they don’t cover the entire dresser.
2. This dresser was sitting on the curb, and the blogger actually picked it up for the hardware.

However, by taking out the drawers and adding some sturdy shelves and wine glass holders, they made this absolutely adorable bar, complete with ice box!
3. Who would have thought that this boring dresser could be turned into a seat?

I love the cute bench this dresser transformed into, and it’s amazing that this only cost about $25.
4. Your dresser can reflect your wanderlust with suitcase drawers.

Cover the drawers with fabrics that look like they belong to suitcases, and then fill in the final buckles and handles. You can also find belts from the thrift store for some worn-looking leather handles.
5. This TV stand used to be a full dresser, but look at how they opened it up.

The dresser was in some bad shape, so they replaced the back and put some paintable wallpaper on top for some texture. Some paint, stain, and distressing, and you get a funky red TV stand.
6. A lot of DIYs for dressers involve getting rid of some drawers, so you may as well put them to good use.

Give the drawers a coat of paint and add casters onto the bottom for a storage solution that you can wheel in and out from under your bed.
7. This decoupage DIY had a completely fabulous result.

She painted the images with decoupage glue and put them face-down on the dresser. Rub away the images and add a few layers of varnish and wax, and you get this gorgeously vintage result.
8. The small touches are sometimes what really makes a DIY project.

While the new turquoise paint on this dresser is bright and cheery, it’s the addition of floral wallpaper on the sides of the drawers that make it pop.
9. If you’re into the vintage romantic look, spray paint and lace can go a long way.

Spray your second color right over a piece of lace and peel the lace straight up for that gorgeous pattern. You can use the same piece of lace multiple times.
10. This dresser used to be totally plain, but the mirrors make it super snazzy.

An old bathroom mirror was cut down to size and then glued onto the dresser for a bit of flair.
11. Some textured wallpaper can give an old dresser a completely different look.

The finishing touch was to use some brown stain to add a bit of depth. Can you believe that this dresser used to be bright purple?
12. If you look closely, a dresser already has most of the components of a kitchen island.

It’s all about turning lower drawers into shelves, adding a more functional work surface, and thinking about the small details like hooks on the side.
13. The cheery colors in this upcycled dresser are sure to brighten up a room.

It really is amazing what people can do by taking out drawers and adding some wallpaper.
14. Give a dresser an upgrade with a gorgeous faux marble tabletop.

You really just need to apply gray marble contact paper to the flat surface for a dazzling and modern upgrade that costs less than $10.
15. I’m having a hard time believing that this is the same piece of furniture, but the pictures in progress convinced me.

The color choices really stand out in this DIY , and that chicken wire adds the perfect touch.
16. For those lacking the power tools, an ombré paint job is really all you need for a dresser to go next level.

The bones of this old-fashioned dresser look super trendy with this ombré of teal to sea green to white.
