A woman’s boyfriend keeps spoiling the ending.
In her post , OP asks if she’s in the right for canceling movie night after her boyfriend ruined one too many movies.
It sounds like the couple has a nice routine every Thursday of watching a movie together.
The only problem? Her boyfriend, ‘Andy’, can’t stop himself from ruining the ending.
“He has a habit of Googling spoilers whenever we’re watching a movie for the first time.”
OP writes that, to date, he’s ruined over 14 (!) movies.
“He did it again after I had a talk with him about it,” she wrote. “He says he just can’t help it but I said I can’t let him ruin the one thing I’m so madly interested in.”
After that conversation, Andy agreed to quit.
Yeah, he did it again.
After watching the movie together, OP wrote that she heard the telltale ‘tic, tic, tic’ of Andy typing away on his keyboard. He revealed that he knew the ending, and kept teasing OP about it. Eventually, he couldn’t keep it in any longer and revealed the ending.
OP blew up at him and canceled the next movie night.
“He got offended, saying [I] overreacted,” she wrote.
What’s the verdict?
In this case, Reddit has determined that OP is absolutely not the jerk in this scenario.
“I’m going to be blunt, he REALLY gets off ruining things for you,” wrote one commenter. “He’s never going to stop because, frankly, the look of disappointment on your face gives him power … It’s not a small thing for someone to actively ENJOY sucking the joy out of your life.”
Should she dump him?
It might seem a tad extreme, but some commenters said his power tripping might justify a breakup.
“Definitely cancel the boyfriend!” advised one comment. “I am one of those weirdos that loves to know spoilers, but I never spoil it for anyone because frankly I’m not about to power trip anyone over a movie.”
Were there any dissenting opinions?
Honestly, not really. This one is pretty close to a clean sweep. One comment said he may have OCD, and another didn’t like OP’s tone, but these mildly dissenting opinions didn’t receive many upvotes at all.
