At this point in time, it seems that we have a pretty complicated relationship with raccoons.
On one hand, more people than ever find them absolutely adorable and — as with most animals — will become outraged when someone is cruel to one.
But on the other hand, we also acknowledge that raccoons can be very dangerous to us despite being a common sight in most our neighborhoods. That’s because they’re one of the most common carriers of rabies , which makes them potentially deadly even if that disease isn’t making them aggressive.
And we can see the crossroads of our perception of raccoons come together perfectly in one funny story that started from a really weird claim.
Back in September, Drew Olanoff of Pennsylvania tweeted a story that started with his electrician telling him there was a raccoon in his attic.

In and of itself, this isn’t exactly unheard of, but it got weirder when the electrician said the critter had a “nice setup” that indicated it had been there for a long time.
But the kicker came when this person asked, “Did you guys eat king snow crabs, because he has a bunch of them up there.”
Olanoff and his partner April had not and they were absolutely baffled as to how the raccoon had amassed so much seafood.
But however all of this happened, they understandably wanted the raccoon gone and Olanoff assured his followers they would do so humanely.

This led them to quickly shop around for wildlife removal services and while Olanoff was surprised at how calm he was, the same couldn’t be said for April.
As he put it, “I know april is nervous because she just gave a wildlife place her name and said “april, like the month” WHICH SHE NEVER EVER DOES.”
But it seemed they didn’t have to worry because a professional named Kris who is known for using humane traps was at their house before the day was out.
And not only did Kris remove the animal, but he was able to solve the mystery of the surprise crab legs.

As it turned out, the creature wasn’t eating crab legs at all, but rather plants that bore an admittedly close resemblance to them.
Funnily enough, it also turned out that they weren’t even dealing with a raccoon. It was a possum.
Still, not necessarily something you want in your attic.
