His grandfather was a monster.

“My paternal grandfather was an alcoholic wife abuser who regularly cheated on Grandma. When my father was a teenager he stood up to him, and threatened to kill him if he ever touched her again.
The abuse stopped,” shared one Reddit user.
His dad’s first wife killed their daughter.

One person said that his dad was married once before marrying his mom and they had a daughter together. His dad loved his daughter so much, that the wife was crazy jealous.
He left, but the wife reported her daughter as “kidnapped.” The police brought the daughter back to her, and she forced the daughter to drink milk with poison in it. She died and the dad never got justice.
He found out he had a half-brother.

“Got a Facebook message from one guy asking if I was related to [my dad], since it’s not a common last name. I thought he was a fan of his work, because I was in college at the time and the guy was about the same age as me.
And that’s how I found out my dad slept around and that I had a half-brother the same age as me,” said another.
Their mother had to go into witness protection.

One person said that their mother dated a gangster and drug dealer in the 80s who was sentenced to prison for murder.
He continued to stalk her for 20 years and she had to enter witness protection. Her ex is still stalking her and their dad has no idea.

A deal for a lifetime.

One person said that their college tuition was paid for by some “random guy named Tony.”

He had no idea he had a son.

“My son is 20. His mother just told him about me in December. Nobody knew I was his dad, even me. 20 years not knowing I had a son. It’s been 6 months and he’s the greatest thing I’ve ever done,” shared one dad.
They escaped this marriage.

“There was story growing up about how a local prince wanted to marry me and offered things like cows for my hand in marriage.
Turned out the prince was the president’s son and it wasn’t an offer, it was a demand. We snuck out of the country because he was going to make me his wife – bear in mind, I was a toddler,” shared someone else.
Their aunt was a product of a rape.

“Apparently my aunt was the product of rape, but my grandma hasn’t told anyone in the family yet except me… she just turned 90, I have no idea what I should do with this information once she passes,” shared another Reddit user.
Their mom was secretly protecting them.

Their grandmother tried to murder their grandfather.

“My grandmother tried to murder my grandfather when she got sick of him beating the shit out of her everyday.
She swung an axe at him and he blocked it with his hand and lost his thumb.
She left him before I was born,” shared someone else.
Their mother and twin sister died during their birth.

“Not an adult, but my mom died giving birth to me, but I just found out a few months ago that I had a twin sister that died during childbirth to. She wasn’t really strong enough to survive. I think I stole all the good stuff inside. It would be cool having a mom and a twin sister but the world had diffrent plans i guess,” shared another.
Their grandmother was sentenced to jail for performing illegal abortions.

Another user said their mother was always “anti-abortion.”
Turns out, their grandmother was sentenced to prison for performing illegal abortions before Roe v. Wade and people found out because the women nearly bled to death from the procedures.
Who is the dad?

“Several years ago my dad dropped the truth bomb that he didn’t think I was his kid when I was born. My mum had an affair and he thought I was an illicit lovechild.
As soon as I started growing, he could see a lot of himself in my features so eventually brushed it off. But like… gee thanks dad. Not sure I needed to know that,” said another.
Their brother is actually their cousin.

“My adopted brother was actually my cousin. We knew my aunt died in a car crash, but they left out that my uncle was shot/murdered with his son in the room. He was 3 years old at the time, and alone with the body until the next morning,” said someone else.
