One of the more underrated films in the Disney/Pixar canon is Ratatouille . It’s a deliciously heartwarming tale about friendship and the strength that comes from believing in yourself.
What makes it even more enjoyable is the fact that it’s practically bursting with Easter eggs . See for yourself and check out these 10+ little details in Ratatouille that fans didn’t notice.
If you ask me, *Ratatouille* is one of the most underrated Pixar movies of all time.
It is a truly heartwarming story that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves for the animation, writing, and humor.
So we’re here to shed some light on just how good it actually is by pointing out all the little details that went into making the film!
1. Colette actually has an oven rack burn on her forearm!
It’s difficult to spot, but if you freeze the film at the exact moment, you can clearly see the burn mark on the inside of her arm.
This is a common kitchen injury and adds a whole new level of realness.
2. There are a ton of hidden Mickeys.
Obviously, in a film where the main character is a rat, and the company who produced the film has a mouse for a mascot, there are going to be a lot of hidden Mickey Mouse heads.
The most obvious one is floating in the pot of soup.
3. It wasn’t an accident that Remy served Ratatouille to Anton.
There’s evidence to suggest that Remy actually grew up in the kitchen of Anton’s mother, and that’s how he learned to cook.
It might seem a little out there, but it makes sense if you pay attention.
Doesn’t it seem a little odd that Remy would pull ratatouille out of thin air?
At first, Colette was shocked at the suggestion. Which would lead you to believe that it isn’t a common dish served in the restaurant.
She even refers to it as “peasant food.” Yet still, Remy insists.
If you compare the kitchen in the flashback scene to the old woman’s at the beginning of the film, they’re almost identical.
Remy remembered that it was Anton’s favorite dish because he was there when he ate it!
It makes a lot of sense when you start putting the pieces together.
4. There’s a subtle reference to *Rocky*.
Toward the end of the film, when Remy and Linguini are preparing for their final feast, we see a panning shot of Git fiercely punching a large cut of steak.
This is a clever nod to a very famous scene from Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky .

His favorite of which involved him stepping into a giant meat freezer and hitting the hanging cuts as if they were a heavy bag.

5. The tag on Git’s ear reads A113
A113 is one of the oldest and longest-running recurring gags in Pixar movies.
It’s a reference to the classroom at the California Institute of the Arts. A113 is hidden in every single Pixar movie.
6. Skinner makes headlines!
There’s a small bit of text in one of the subheadings that reads: “Belligerent Man Jumps In Seine.”
This is referencing the previous scene where Skinner attempts to jump from one boat to another in pursuit of Remy and winds up falling in the river.
7. Remy knows the value of re-purposing items.
Take a look at the setup in Remy’s restaurant and you’ll notice some interesting items adorning the tables.
The cups are thimbles, his tables are ramekins, what look like plates are buttons, and the lights are actually a string of Christmas lights.
8. Linguini really does have some incredible underpants.
Literally! If you take a look you’ll see that his bright red underpants are emblazoned with The Incredibles logo!
Where can I get a pair? Hook it up, Linguini!
9. *Finding Nemo* in a can of caviar?
A keen eye will reveal that the can behind Remy in the storage closet is Nemo Brand Caviar.
Which is a little morbid when you really stop to think about it. Caviar is raw fish egg, so are those baby Nemos?!
10. Anton Ego is a seriously macabre character.
Whenever Anton is around, there’s usually a death reference close by. Take a look at his typewriter. Doesn’t it look eerily like a human skull?
If you think I’m reaching, take a look at his office from the aerial view.
It’s clearly in the shape of a coffin. The red drapes make it look even more sinister.
I haven’t even touched on the fact that Anton is just an all-around creepy character to boot! He seriously reminds me of the Crypt Keeper.
Great. Now I’m going to have nightmares…
11. The Pizza Planet delivery trucks makes a cameo appearance.
We’ve already discussed A113, but another very famous Pixar Easter egg is the inclusion of the Pizza Planet truck from the original Toy Story .
When Skinner is chasing Remy along the Seine, you’ll see the truck on the bridge if you pause it at just the right moment.
12. Remy jumps into a sink of soapy water so that he won’t contaminate the food in the kitchen.
And then right after, he walks on two feet instead of all four, to keep his front two completely clean.
This is the sweetest little rat in all of Paris, if you ask me.
13. Anton Ego says “I don’t ‘like’ food, I love it. If I don’t love it, I don’t swallow.”
This sounds like just a line in the movie, but his physical appearance actually changes in the movie!
He is super skinny at the start, but his face is fuller by the end, which means he is now swallowing the food!
14. The bite mark.
Remember when Remy bit Linguini before they became friends?
Well, in a scene later on you can see a little red mark on his hand from when Remy bit him. Talk about attention to detail.
15. Bomb Voyage from *The Incredibles* actually makes a cameo appearance in the movie!
There are a lot of theories about the Pixar movies all being connected, and this cameo definitely lends to it!
There Bomb Voyage is, entertaining children. I wonder if The Incredibles had to make a stop there…
16. Speaking of movies all connecting…
Do you remember when Remy is being chased by a dog?
Well, look at that shadow! It looks a lot like Dug from Up . Come on, Pixar, tell us the truth! Are all the movies actually connected?
17. This is literally just the cutest thing in the world.
Remy is so tiny and cute that, in order to drink, he uses a toothpaste cap as a cup!
Seriously, don’t tell me that this isn’t the most adorable thing in the world. These little details are too much to handle.
