Our homes are where many of us are at our most comfortable, and that wouldn’t be possible if they also weren’t the places we feel the safest.
Unfortunately, the world doesn’t have any shortage of things to be worried about, and it’s not hard to see why the ones that can affect us in our sanctuaries would scare us the most.

But while some home hazards like fires and carbon monoxide leaks can both be detected by machines and happen without anyone’s deliberate actions, there’s something particularly harrowing about the idea of someone forcing their way in.
And as one Ohio woman discovered, that fear becomes all the more gripping when an intruder is discovered near the children in a household.
Last week, Areica Hill of Columbus, Ohio had a bizarre start to her day.
As NBC4i reported , she awoke to the sound of a dog barking from inside her home.
The dog was not hers.
When she looked down the hallway, however, she didn’t see a dog.

Instead, she caught sight of an unfamiliar woman kneeling over her bathtub while her two-year-old son sat inside.
By this point, the woman was apparently preparing to give Hill’s son a bath.
The situation almost didn’t seem real to Hill at first, but she quickly separated the woman from her child.
After that, her boyfriend held the woman in place until police arrived.
As Hill told NBC4i, “I don’t know what was going through her head. It’s a nightmare. I never thought nothing like this would ever happen.”
According to a court affidavit, the woman apparently entered Hill’s home to care for the child, who she claimed she discovered outside of the residence.
The suspect’s mother would later tell NBC4i that the woman had good intentions and her heart was in the right place.
While authorities figure out the facts of this case, the woman identified as 22-year-old Elizabeth Hixon has been charged with burglary.
Hill is seeking further charges against Hixon, but it won’t be clear whether any additional charges are appropriate until prosecutors receive the full report of the police investigation.
Hixon has since posted bond and secured her release from the Franklin County Jail.
