Are you ready to be a plant parent but aren’t sure which plants are actually easy to take care of? No worries, I’ve got you covered.
Take it from me, someone who has destroyed plants before, ha, ha! Now I know which ones to get and which ones to stay away from. Hello, orchids can you hear me? Those poor things, I’ve killed too many of them.
1. Philodendron
This is by far my favorite plant of all. Why? Because it’s virtually impossible to kill. As long as you have one leaf left you can easily propagate it. That’s what I have done with my latest one with great success.
2. Peace Lily
My second favorite easy to maintain plant of choice has got to be the Peace Lily. I got one last year and it’s still alive. Enough said, ha, ha! It loves humidity and indirect sunlight but can thrive even in winter if you mist it.
3. Aloe Vera
We always had aloe plants when I was growing up, and I don’t ever remember any of them dying on us. They require very little watering and the gel inside of the plant can soothe cuts and burns.
4. Snake Plant
Here’s a plant I’ve read about and have wanted to get for some time. It’s actually part of the succulent family, which means that it can tolerate being forgotten or not being watered for some time. Sounds perfect to me.
5. African Violet
Here’s another plant that brings me back to my childhood. My mom had many African violets in a variety of colors from purple to white to yellow. They always grew in abundance and looked so beautiful in the house.

6. Bamboo
Okay, confession time, I once killed a bamboo plant. I know, that’s terrible. I think the problem was overwatering. But I’m willing to give it another try, and this time, I will make sure that doesn’t happen. I swear.
7. Rubber Plant
Here’s another plant I love. I bought my rubber plant last year, which I fittingly named Robert Plant, and it’s still hanging around. That’s gotta tell you something, right? This little guy is definitely here to stay.
8. Boston Fern
Here’s another cool plant I remember having around our house when I was young. It always grew like crazy and I loved its shaggy-dog appearance. It’s a fantastic plant to display in a hanging planter. Doesn’t it look so awesome?
9. Spider Plant
I almost bought this plant last year when I visited my local greenhouse. But unfortunately, the one they had was sick. It produces tiny “pups” that can be easily propagated, and it looks super cool too, no?
10. Chinese Evergreen
This baby will thrive in any kind of indoor conditions. The leaves produce a variety of interesting patterns. And if you give it enough light, it might even produce blooms similar to a calla lily. Wow, I need to see that.
11. Cactus
One of the best plants you can get is a cactus. There are many different varieties of cacti you can choose from. We had one when I was growing up and it bloomed with gorgeous huge flowers. Those are some of my favorite memories.
12. ZZ Plant
Apparently, this plant requires so little water you can actually leave it for months and it won’t die. That sounds like a plant that will be happy at my house. Not that I plan on doing that on purpose or anything, lol.
13. Air Plants
I’ve heard so much about Air Plants that I’m so intrigued to get a few of them. They don’t even have to be planted in soil. But they do require bright indirect light and some watering. Don’t they look so cool?
I love plants so much, I’m surprised I didn’t become a plant lady, ha, ha! (Whatever that even means.)
But seriously, if my house was any bigger I would have set up a greenhouse by now. I just love being surrounded by nature.
