Usually when you’re feeling buyer’s remorse, you don’t have to do much more than cross your fingers that you shopped at a place with a decent return policy. Sure, it’s an inconvenience, but that’s about it.
Unfortunately, buyer’s remorse does’t sum up this lady’s situation. While she might have made a regrettable purchase, it’s not the sort of thing that should cause intense, chronic pain, and be so difficult to remove.
Mayela Caldera was living her dream until pain got in the way.

The Venezuelan beauty had a successful career as a model and TV host, but a troublesome breast implant causing chronic pain has left her begging for help.
It’s so bad, she has even started a GoFundMe asking for help paying for surgery to get her implants removed.
The trouble started about a year ago.

Mayela began experiencing some pain in her left breast, but her doctor chalked it up to stress, and given that she was going through some family drama at the time, that seemed reasonable.
However, the pain only got worse over time.
By October, the pain was bad enough that she sought out a second opinion.

And then a third, and a fourth. Finally, after seeing six different doctors, Mayela learned that her breast implants were the issue.
It got even worse from there. “In January, the pain moved very strongly to the left arm, preventing movement, since then I have difficulty sleeping and I have inflammation in the whole area of the armpit and chest with a lot of pain,” she wrote on her GoFundMe.
The problem is that one of her implants has shifted and is now pressing on a nerve.

“The pain is as intense as that of the sciatic nerve and it is very likely that part of the silicone is attached to it, if so, the doctor must remove part of the nerve and this would cause the loss of sensitivity of my left side.”
Unfortunately, due to the intense pain and loss of movement, Mayela can’t work. That also means that she can’t afford the surgery she needs.
It might seem like Mayela has done well for herself, but she has found herself in a situation like many Americans.

She has always sent money home to her family in Venezuela, where the financial situation is about as dire as it gets. She also has health insurance – which doesn’t cover the surgery.
“It has been very hard to deal with my health situation all these months, the costs of medicine here in the United States are very high and it is very frustrating to know that you need urgent specialised medical attention but do not have enough resources to cover it,” she wrote.
It’s a Catch-22 that’s all too familiar – unable to work due to pain, and therefore unable to pay for the surgery to get rid of the pain.

And yet, just the thought of having the surgery brought Mayela to tears. “Yesterday when the doctor told me ‘You will be fine, I’m going to take away the pain’, I cried and cried because there have been so many months of uncertainty, of pain.”
And so she’s asking her 32,700 Instagram followers, among others, if they might pitch in.

She says she has applied for a loan to help cover the $12,000 procedure, but she’s still short, so she’s hoping to raise $5,000 through crowdfunding. So far, donors have kicked in just over $1,600.
Mayela hasn’t lost her fighting spirit, but of course it’s not easy.

“I am very affected by everything that my family and my people suffer in my country, Venezuela, I try to do everything possible to get ahead, looking for work, with the hope of being able to help my parents back in Caracas.
“But my body will not give anymore and the pain every day when I wake up demotivates me, it takes away my strength.”
So here’s hoping gets the help she needs!
