There are a lot of animal rescue stories out there, but that’s because every animal deserves a chance to be rescued. Plus, they are guaranteed to give us humans The Feels when we watch them.
This latest story to go viral is special because of how easily the animals could have been missed.

Holt and Kat Perry were out snowmobiling in the snows of Monte Cristo, Utah, when they spotted a dog.
It was a muddy and emaciated Great Pyrenees that had clearly given birth recently. Having no food or anything else to tempt her, the couple couldn’t catch the dog and they were forced to leave her.
They returned the next day with food and a crate they hoped to coax her into.
It took a lot of looking, but they found her three miles away from where they had originally spotted her, and she wasn’t alone.
Exposed on the side of a creek road, three puppies were curled within the picked-clean remains of a dead sheep. It had long-since been stripped of meat and the puppies were cold and starving.
They loaded the puppies into the crate, and with the help of a nearby crew from Weber County Search and Rescue, a sled was produced to help transport them off the mountain.
Sadly, the mom was still too wild and scared to let them catch her.
In the end, they decided to take the puppies to safety first before returning to get her. They left 20 pounds of food out for her in the meantime.
It’s likely that the mom had been protecting a flock of sheep in the area during the summer, a job the breed is commonly used for.
When the rancher returned, she had likely wandered off, perhaps to give birth, and the flock left without her. The dead sheep likely kept her and her puppies fed for a while before being picked clean.
Sadly, when they returned for the mom, she was nowhere to be found.
People are still out searching for her in hopes of rescuing her and reuniting her with her puppies.
Meanwhile, the three puppies have been seen by a vet and are doing fine.
They are going to be taken in by the Great Pyrenees Rescue , based in Montana, to have forever homes found for them.
As far as I can tell, they don’t have names yet, so considering the details of where they were found and that there are two boys and a girl, I decree that they should be named Luke, Han, and Leia.
Because that’s some planet Hoth, cocooned inside a tauntaun-level survival, right there.
