Woman Who Wrote “Adulterer” On Deceased Husband’s Tombstone Incurs Family’s Wrath

Being caught in the crossfire of family drama can be incredibly upsetting when you are in the midst of it. However, one recent Reddit thread which has been going viral blew a lot of people's family drama stories out of the water.

The story detailed how one person's mother had taken revenge upon their cheating husband even after his death — a revenge that would last for eternity.

Finding out that your significant other is having an affair is never an easy moment.

"My father and mother had a very bitter marriage towards the end of his life, he had a long running affair with another married co-worker and got her pregnant before he passed," Reddit user "One-Poetry9190" started their story by writing.

"He was planning to leave mom, skip the country and move to Canada to start a new life with her. They had a house picked out and all."

Apparently, their father "was living with his co-worker when he suddenly died of a heart attack while having sex."

However, due to the fact that this person's mother and father had not legally separated or divorced, details of his estate and funeral were left to the deceased's wife.

The story continued with this person writing, "on paper they were still happily married. Now me and my siblings are already out of home, our youngest sibling is 19 and is in college. I work for a tech company and I'm currently back in my hometown helping my mom manage his estate."

The deceased's wife decided that she would engrave his tombstone with, "husband, father and adulterer."

This person ended their story by writing: "My mom was hurt and petty and marked his gravestone as 'In loving memory of John Doe, son, husband, father and adulterer.'

"My dad's family and his pregnant partner are mad and want me to fix it. I personally think it's fine, that's who he was. He was all of those things. And since it's my mom's plot, I can't do anything."

They also asked if they were the "asshole" in the situation for not helping more to change the tombstone.

The current public consensus is that the mother had every right to do what she did.

The majority of people were elated to hear how she had handled the situation, with the top response being:

"I would DIE (no pun intended) if I was walking through a cemetery and saw that! Your mom is an icon. [I] hope she burns his old shirts or something. Also, while going through estate papers and talking to lawyers, ask about what rights the side piece will have in claiming money for her kid, since it was your dad's kid too. Just so you're all prepared."

The person who posted this also explained, "My mom has lawyered up and since my dad died intestate, according to our state laws everything goes to mom. Mom won't leave anything for side piece. She is going to leave it for us once she passes."

The majority of people pointed out that, ultimately, there is nothing that he can do to help his father's family either.

Since the mother owns the plot, there is nothing that anyone can do to change the tombstone except for her. Some people did suggest that, if the father's family were so upset, then they could always pay for a park bench with the father's name on and write their own epitaph for him on that.
