Love It Or Hate It, Suzanne Somers Talking About Her Sex Life As An Older Woman Is Important

Every time people hear about Suzanne Somers' sex life, they have one of two thoughts — they either think Hey, that's awesome! We need more older folks talking about sex as a mature adult, or they think NO ONE CARES!!!!! EW!!!!!."

Well, I'm here to remind you why you should care, and why it's so important for Suzanne and others to keep talking about sex after 50!

As you most likely already know by now, Suzanne Somers and hubby Alan Hamel are *very much so* in love.

And while we may think about the pair being one of the longest-lasting in Hollywood, it's easy to forget just how long they've been together.

Tying the knot back in 1977, Suzanne and Alan have been together for nearly 45 years!

To not only still be in love, but still be extremely sexually active at their ages (Suzanne is 74, Alan is 84) is incredibly impressive, and a great reminder that your golden years can still be filled with romance and intimacy!

Recently, Suzanne opened up about she and Alan having sex three times a day.

She credits a "sexual stimulant" — the melanocortin-based peptide PT-141, and nightly tequila cocktails with Alan for their vivacious sex life.

Recently, Suzanne got candid about taking care of herself and her sex life.

"I may be in my 70s now, and I always thought when I got in this decade that it would be over and I just want people to know it ain't over if you know how to take care of yourself," she admitted, as per Fox News.

"Aging is about worn out parts, so your hormones start declining, your nutrients start declining, your minerals start declining," she continued.

"So, what I write about in my books is how to put it all back together again."

"Our kids are raised, we paid for the weddings, we paid for the education and it's now just me and Al," she added.

"And God, we are having a great time. Yes, we have a lot of sex because we're in balance, but also I have seven drinks a week too."

In 2019, Suzanne compared her sex drive to that of a younger person, saying that she's "kind of in that groove, like when you were younger and you're in the mood all the time, and so is [Alan] because he's on hormone replacements."

This type of candid discourse is a great reminder for us all that sex doesn't stop for couples over 60, yet senior sex is something that is still taboo to many.

Research from the University of Manchester demonstrated that senior couples are having sex well into their 70’s and 80’s.

This study was the first of its kind, showing the large gap in research for sex among seniors.

"We hope our findings improve public health by countering stereotypes and misconceptions about late-life sexuality, and offer older people a reference against which they may relate their own experiences and expectations," Dr. David Lee reported.

Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director at Age UK, echoed Dr. Lee's statements: "The fact this is the first time that people over 80 years old have been included in this kind of research highlights how often the public health needs of older people, including sexual health, are ignored or overlooked."

"With an ageing population it is important that providers of sexual health services understand the needs of older people in both clinical settings and when developing information and advice."

She concluded: "These recent findings now need to be used to improve sexual health advice and information for older people."

Until the stigma is destroyed, we have women like Suzanne Somers to thank you bringing this topic to life and reminding us all the importance of intimacy, no matter your age!
