DIYer Uses Peel-And-Stick Flooring For An Easy Accent Wall Hack

Peel and stick is the best secret weapon a DIYer can have.

Whether it's tile or flooring, peel and stick materials are a great, low-budget way to make a big change in your home. No one knows that better than designer Cara Newhart (aka @neverskipbrunch, who decided to use vinyl flooring to makeover a nook in her home!

Cara went all out for this makeover.

She had a nook in her house that needed a little love, so she decided to go all the way with it. First, she decided to shrink the size of the alcove she was working with.

This DIY doesn't have to include reframing, however!

"You could totally DIY this accent wall in your space, NO TOOLS required — just skip reframing your entire niche area on a whim," she wrote on Instagram.

After everything was set, she got to the vinyl part of her project!

Cara said she got her vinyl flooring from DuraDecor, which you can find at Home Depot. A box of the exact flooring she used will run you about $50.

The flooring was incredibly easy to work with.

Apparently, the material was so simple that she was actually able to cut the planks to size using scissors! It seems to be like those things are just giant stickers, huh?

She added some trim, too.

Finishing off the edges and trim definitely makes the whole wall look more custom. I can't get over how good that vinyl illusion is, either — it actually looks like wood!

Of course, no makeover is complete without those special touches.

Cara installed a new light in the alcove, which looks like a gorgeous golden globe and which I want very much. She also added two creme ottomans that feature bonus storage!

She even made her own art for the space.

Cara used a combination of paint, gold foil, and joint compound to create a piece of textured art! This trend is big on TikTok right now, thanks to its affordability and... well, it's just fun, really.

Here's the finished product!

The wall looks amazing! I love that she added a gold outlet cover, it really blends in with the space and makes the wall look even more custom.
