Gender Reveal Explosion Triggers Earthquake Reports And Damages Local Homes

Though fairly controversial, gender reveal parties are typically known for their cute and creative ways of unveiling the sex of the baby to loved ones.

From balloon releases to pink and blue cakes, expectant couples usually make the event an exciting time for all their friends and family to enjoy. And usually, those events go off without any sort of safety concerns or high-cost damages. Usually.

However, one such party proved much too exciting when the nearby locals were quite literally rocked by the explosive reveal.

This New Hampshire neighborhood was in for a surprise.

As Insider reported, the gender reveal party took place on the evening of April 20th, turning a seemingly normal day into an alarming one.

People who live near the Torromeo quarry reported hearing an explosion at around 7 PM, followed by tremors which many suspected signaled an earthquake. Others weren't quite sure what had happened, so they called the police.

As it turns out, a group of people had detonated 80lbs of Tannerite.

The gender reveal party had taken an unexpected when they decided to use an explosion for their big reveal.

However, since it wasn't immediately clear that this was the cause of the tremors, everyone in the surrounding area was left feeling quite scared and certain they were feeling the effects of an earthquake.

This was not an appropriate way to have a gender reveal party.

Although the explosives were purchased legally and the family thought detonating them in a quarry would be fine, local authorities were unimpressed with their "reveal" approach.

"Obviously, depending on the amount [of explosives] they were using, it could be extremely dangerous," Kingston Police chief Donald Briggs said, as per the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Locals are also displeased with the events that took place, all in the name of revealing a baby's gender.

"It knocked pictures off our walls," resident Sara Taglieri recalled of the incident to NBC Boston, with her husband Matt adding that the explosion "cracked foundations of" their neighbors' homes.

"I don't know how that's right," he finished.

This is only the latest in a long history of gender reveal parties going terribly wrong.

Just last year, a party made headlines after a smoke-generating pyrotechnic device meant to reveal the gender of the baby ignited a massive wildfire in California.

And this year alone, gender reveal parties have already resulted in four deaths, including two pilots who were killed in a plane crash after a reveal stunt went horrifically wrong.

With all that said, the gender was successfully revealed.

The situation came to a close when the man who purchased the explosives turned himself in for police investigation.

While there were many ways this family could have gone about revealing their baby boy, they chose one of the loudest. Without a doubt, this is one gender reveal people will never forget.
