This year is a really weird one for fashion. For some odd reason that’s beyond me, Y2K fashion made a comeback. You’ve probably noticed brands like Champion and Fila making their mark on Gen Z culture, and an increase in the popularity of thrifting makes it easy to get hold of these ’00s…erm, treasures.
One special decade that is equally as questionable as the 2000s is the ’80s, and they’ve made a comeback this summer in the swimwear department, which is bad news for those of us who like some bootie and boobie coverage. There may be a reason why the trend went bye-bye in the first place.
You’ve absolutely seen ultra high cut swimsuits make their mark all over popular and trendy online fashion retailers as of recent.

The cut of these swimsuits are either high waisted or scoop below the bellybutton and rise back up over the waist.
Many of the two pieces feature tiny tops that seem about the width of a piece of duck tape and slim bottoms that don’t even cover half of one cheek.

But don’t get it twisted — these are not simple high waisted swimsuits that provide optimal comfort and coverage.
So why does this trend terrify me?

I just want to wear something that mostly covers my behind, adds some comfort to my stomach, and looks cute. Is that too much to ask?
The naked swimsuit might just be the most terrifying of them all. One weird pull on the bikini bottoms and that’s it. It’s all out there.
I will say, the high cut does help elongate the legs.

So if you’re a shortie like me, these will help add a couple inches on ya.
If you’ve worn this style and absolutely adore it, you do you! I bet you look amazing and keep rocking it!
But I challenge you to find me a high cut swimsuit that can cover my peach, and then maybe I’ll change my mind.
