TV Icon Regis Philbin Dead at 88

Today the world was saddened to learn of the passing of television icon Regis Philbin. The star died peacefully at the age of 88 years old.

Regis will forever be remembered for his charm, compassion, and his undeniable zest for life. Today, the world mourns together. RIP, Regis Philbin.

Wildly popular TV host Regis Philbin was a New York native.

Regis was born on August 25, 1931 in the Bronx, NY. He attended the University of Notre Dame and received a degree in sociology.

Then, in 1961, Regis landed his first job as a local talk show host.

Regis' career took off when he became the host of *Live With Regis and Kathie Lee* in 1988.

It was one of the most popular morning shows of all time. Regis hosted the show with Kathie Lee Gifford for an amazing 15 years and then for another 11 with Kelly Ripa!

Afterward, Regis became the first host of the wildly popular game show *Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?*

Regis was the question master of the show. Every night, contestants would answer a series of increasingly difficult questions for their shot at winning the grand prize of $1 million!

"Is that your final answer?" became one of the most popular quotes of the age!

Over the years, Regis has made several cameo appearances on some of our favorite shows.

I'll never forget when Regis made an appearance on How I Met Your Mother. It was hilarious to see that he, like Marshall, was completely burger-obsessed!

He's won countless Emmys and even has his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

Regis was given the prestigious honor back in 2003. Five years later, he also went on to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Emmys.

In recent years, Regis began dealing with several health problems.

Regis had to undergo triple bypass surgery in 2007 in order to repair the blockage in his arteries. Two years later, the star had a hip replaced as well.

After 88 wonderful years of life, Regis passed away due to natural causes.

"We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss," said a representative of the Philbin family.
