Remote work existed long before the pandemic, but the necessity of separating people to prevent the spread of disease sure made it more prevalent. Now, many companies are faced with a decision of whether to provide incentives for workers to return to the office, force them back, or just embrace remote work as the future and figure out their policies from there.
It’s all pretty messy right now. In some cases, workers have been loose in their interpretation of “remote,” and in others, management has come down hard on workers being too remote .

Remote workers have also shown a lot of creativity in how they go about their days.
One does all his regular, eight-hour workday in about 30 minutes . Another showed themselves working from a speedboat .
It’s clear that we’re all figuring it all out as we go right now.
And then there’s this remote worker, spotted setting up a green screen on the beach.
Much like “mouse jiggler” hacks , this remote worker wants to give the appearance of being a good, responsible remote worker, while actually relaxing, by changing his on-camera background using a green screen.
It’s certainly creative, but whether or not it’s appropriate is up for debate.
Many commenters praised the creativity, calling it “brilliant” or “genius.”
Others stressed that important thing to consider is productivity, not environment. “The work gets done, right? Nothing to see here but a productive and proactive employee,” one person wrote.
Many questioned how well his plan would even work.
“I wish I could get Wi-Fi at the beach,” one person commented.
“Idc what you say that’s not more comfortable than working from an office chair with back support in the AC,” another chimed in.
“But how do y’all keep your laptops charged??” wrote another.
Some were downright envious of this remote worker.
“Where are you people finding remote jobs that pay decent wages?” one person asked. “So sick of sitting in traffic and waking up before the sun.”
“Who do you work for and are they hiring?” asked another.
The vast majority seemed to think it was a great idea.
“You mean to tell me instead of totally calling out and potentially backing up productivity, this employee still worked on a self-care day? Legend,” one person commented.
“If this isn’t the most genius thing I’ve ever seen idk what is. What a legend,” wrote another.
If this is the future of remote work, a lot of people are on board.
