We all have our bad days . You know, those times where absolutely nothing seems to go right and for one reason or another — you end up doing something incredibly stupid .
Well, I’m here to tell you that there’s no need to feel ashamed or embarrassed because it happens to us all. Have a look and see as these otherwise smart people share the dumbest thing they’ve ever done.
Take a walk on the wild side.
This cheeky Redditor who goes by the handle PeppermintFart said someone they know once pressed their bare hand to a stove burner in order to see if it was still hot. This person also happened to have two Doctorates.
The most gifted people are often the most absent-minded.
“My husband. He’s a mathematician for the Feds, but he has repeatedly gotten us to the wrong airport in cities that have more than one. Like at least three times. He’s brilliant, but a moron.” – Reddit u/Azryhael
For the record: reindeer really do exist
Reddit user fencerman said that someone they know (who happens to have a Ph.D.) was convinced that reindeer didn’t exist. They actually thought that they were fictional characters who only existed in Santa Claus myths.
The mental exhaustion of having children is unlike any other.
“My brother has PhDs in bioengineering,” Reddit user needsomevitaminstbh said. “We were on a call one day and he was saying “I[sic] can’t find my phone. Probably my kids took it.” Didn’t realize until I[sic] told him that he was using his phone to talk to me.”
When sparks fly.
Redditor Bonnie_Blew had a friend who graduated top of her class and went on to be a doctor at a very prestigious hospital. While they were roommates, her doctor friend left her fork in a bowl of green beans and couldn’t figure out why the microwave had begun to spark.
Panic has a way of shutting off your brain.
“Brother in law[sic] is a pretty clever guy. Ran a bath for his kid, couldn’t get the tap to turn off, mad panic, rang a plumber friend asking him to come round quick or the house is gonna flood. Friend was like, you could just pull the plug?” – Reddit u/whydidyadothat
It’s probably best to leave ear piercing to the experts.
How far would you go to impress someone at a party? According to Redditor icedcoffeeandcrying , their father once stabbed an earring through his unpierced ear, just to impress a girl. He is now an engineer.
Always keep your nose clean.
“My dad is the smartest person I (and anyone who knows him) know and once when we were kids he tried to make us laugh by sticking peas in his nostrils and ended up accidentally snorting them up into his nasal passages. Best part: he’s an ear, nose, and throat surgeon.” – Reddit u/katierose0324
That’s not a Hot Pocket.
This almost seems too disgusting to be true, but according to Reddit user oksothisonetime, a friend of theirs (who also aced his MCAT) once ate raw chicken that he mistook for a Hot Pocket — and he was sober!
Not all salads are raw.
“My friend has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and robotics,” Reddit user massi95 explained. “He once made a potato salad with raw potatoes because he thought, since it’s a salad, you’re not supposed to cook it.”
Make sure to always use a cutting board.
One time, cootbaybee ‘s brother was cutting an apple using a large knife — while holding the piece of fruit in his hand! Needless to say, it’s now years later but he still has a rather disgusting scar as a reminder.
If it sounds too good to be true…
“My brother was in uni in the UK And needed a toaster. He ordered on off[sic] of Amazon for £3 and was surprised to find one so cheap. Turns out it was a kids[sic] toy, it came with plastic pieces of bread as well.” – Reddit u/ Comprehensive_Crab79
You pour the gasoline, I’ll light the match.
There are certain things you must always be mindful of while sitting around a campfire — like making sure to keep all flammable liquids out of reach. Don’t be like AlwaysInTheFlowers and pour a jug of petrol on a bonfire.
Never mistake education for intelligence.
“My one college professor had a double doctorate, several masters, and was literally was the head of the national magazine for his field and had a lot of respect in the science community. He didn’t know electric eels were real. Like he argued with us.” – Reddit u/suitology
Don’t forget that Jenga can be a choking hazard.
It might sound too stupid to believe but according to Redditor WebMission4185 , they once swallowed an entire Jenga piece — whole. All jokes aside, they’re lucky to be alive to tell the tale.
