I might have told you that I’m a huge movie buff . There was a time when I used to go to the movies every weekend. I kid you not. These days I usually enjoy watching films in the comfort of my home, so I feel like I can pay attention a little more.
However, I had no idea there were many mistakes in movies that people caught but the filmmakers somehow missed. Let’s take a look at a few of them, huh?

So, what’s the big deal? Well, the movie was set in the 80s.
‘Hellboy’ (2019)
“In Hellboy (2019) When Hellboy is talking to his dad, the phone screen shows an ‘incoming call’ screen instead of an ‘in call’ screen.”
Oh, yeah. They never seem to get that right. Do you know what I mean?
‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’
“In Captain America: The Winter Soldier , Bucky’s biography states he was born in 1916, but the bottom of his bio says he was born in 1917.”
Hmm, I guess the movie makers should have hired a better proofreader, haha.
‘GI Joe: Conspiration’ (2013)
“In GI Joe: Conspiration (2013), during the nuclear summit scene they translated the french nuclear briefcase with google translate (‘bras’ means the ‘arm’ as a body part, not ‘arm the weapon.’ ‘Avorter’ does not mean ‘abort’ as abort mission but ‘abort a baby.’ ‘Prêt’ means ready and it is correct).”
Perhaps it’s time not to solely rely on Google translate, huh?
‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)’
“In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990), there is a shot where you can see the actor’s mouth inside of the suit.”
Oh, my goodness, haha. Isn’t that so funny? I can’t believe somebody didn’t realize that during the editing process.
‘Sully (2016)’
“In Sully (2016) there is a split-second scene with two Continental Airlines Boeing 737s and an Embraer E-Jet in the foreground. However, Continental never operated the E-Jet, and the 737s have Split Scimitar Winglets, which were introduced 5 years after the movie takes place.”
Oh, wow!
‘Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls’
“There seems to be a continuity error in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls . As you can see in the screen capture below there’s a chessboard with pieces, but when the scene cuts you see the chessboard empty.”
I guess somebody didn’t catch that.
‘Precious’
” Precious (2009). The film is set in 1987, but this computer is from the late 1990s.”
Oh, somebody needs to remind the set decorator to do their job right. Do you get what I’m saying? It’s only a few years difference, but still.
‘Clueless’
Who here watched Clueless about a million times? I have, hehe. I love this movie. But I guess I’m not perceptive enough to notice this detail. In the driving test scene, after Cher runs into another vehicle and destroys her side-view mirror, causing it to fly off, the mirror magically reappears in the next shot.
‘Black Widow’
“In Marvel’s Black Widow , a Twilight sparkle plush is seen in a scene from 1995, but the character wasn’t created until 2010.”
Aha, again, let’s blame the pop master for that, haha. Somebody didn’t do their homework, alright.
‘Old School’
” Old School . Will Ferrell has a bandage on his neck in this scene before he even gets the dart in his neck.”
Oops, how did that even happen, haha? Again, I didn’t catch that. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s quite the gaffe.
‘Back To The Future’
My fiancé is a guitar player, so I’m sure he must’ve noticed this detail in Back to the Future . The guitar Marty McFly plays in the movie is an ES-345, which didn’t debut until 1959. And as you know, the film’s plot takes place in 1955.
‘The Maze Runner’
‘ The Maze Runner (01:39h). A cast member who I believe to be Noah Oppenheim (screenwriter) is seen reflected in the glass of the control room.”
Oh, no! I hate when that happens. But what I want to know is how in the heck nobody catches that in editing, huh? I don’t get that.
‘Uncut Gems’ (2019)
“In Uncut Gems (2019), Julia places Howard’s bet at the sportsbook at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. In 2012, the year the film takes place, the only U.S. state where sports betting was legal was Nevada. Sports betting would not come to Connecticut until October 2021.”
Oh, wow! Nice catch.
‘Wrath of Man’ (2021)
” Wrath of Man (2021) – A bank robber calculating cuts… but there aren’t enough digits on the calculator for the total score. Miracle, he still gets the right result!”
Haha, you don’t say? Funny how things happen in movies, huh?
‘No Country For Old Men’
“In No Country For Old Men (2007), while Anton Chigurh is driving in a neighborhood, a 2004 Subaru Forester can be seen in the background, despite the film being set in 1980.”
Yikes, get that car out of the shot, haha!
‘Pretty Woman’
I don’t know about you, but I love Pretty Woman . I probably watched it at least ten times. But I never noticed that in the scene where Julia Robert’s character Vivian is eating a croissant, the croissant magically becomes a pancake in the next frame. Oh my!
‘Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back’
“In Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back (1980), you can briefly see that Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber was made in Rochester, New York.”
Okay, I would never have caught that, but I’m sure George Lucas wouldn’t like to find that out, haha.
Can you believe all these movie mistakes?
I know moviemaking is a hard process. There are so many checks and balances, but as a perfectionist, finding mistakes like this would drive me crazy, haha. How about you? Does that get on your nerves or what?
