20 Items That Totally Stumped The Person Who Found Them

It's funny, we can fill our brains with as much useless information as we can find, but we probably still won't be able to know everything. Which is, like, fine. Mostly.

Unless you have something you need to know the answer to, that is. Like these things that people found that had them stumped. Luckily, the internet is full of people who seem to know a lot.

"Found in a cheap, sealed, freshly bought sushi rice pack. A tiny clay-like ball, coated in this sort of white ash."

It doesn't look like a ball, because the OP broke it to see what was inside. And as it turns out, it was more than likely a bit of dirt from when they harvested the rice for the sushi.

"Too small for neck, too floppy for wrist, no marking or branding… how on earth do you wear this thing? Is it missing a piece?"

As it turns out, it is for your wrist. OP was just trying it on wrong.

As the Reddit comments were very quick to point out, the ring on the bottom goes around your middle finger. It's very goth.

"A metal rack of some sort, 13.5 inches wide, 16.5 inches tall, with a curved part connecting two wire boxes."

The Reddit comments had an easy time with this one, too. It's a dish rack, with slots for plates and an area for cups and glasses. It could probably work as a drying rack, too.

"The wood is hexagonal in shape. Each peice [*sic*] has threads on one end and a threaded hole on the other end so they could be threaded together. Each piece is around 10 feet long."

There were a few theories here and there but Redditor cybersaint2k had the right answer: "These are parts to a well. You use more of them the deeper that you have to go with the well." Cool!

"Odd shaped outlet industrial facility possibly as old as 1930's USA. Has no power at it."

Because plenty of people out there know about vintage electrical outlets, this one got solved quickly. "It almost looks like a Hubbell Model 7051 - which is an antiquated and unusual type of 15A - 110V outlet. It is probably a slight variation of it," ajwright15 on Reddit wrote.

"Small green box hanging from the gutter under a Satellite TV dish, occasionally emits a high pitch electronic screech."

Reddit user brock_lee found the answer to this one pretty easily. It's one of those devices that emit high-pitched sounds that only dogs can hear, to keep them from barking and away from their lawn and stuff. Another item solved.

"2-3inch metal looking plastic with pink coloured lines on one end, found on the side of the road. Might be a small weird lightbulb or part of a pen?"

This happens to be one of those incredibly specific things that only a handful of people would be able to identify quickly. Thanks to cmiller0513 on Reddit, though, we know that it's a bicycle valve stem light (whatever that is).

"Black metallic object with blue LED on end. Found in middle of road in neighborhood, likely damaged from cars running over it. Says 'MINT' on the side."

This thing looks pretty worn down, but like most things in this world, it has a pretty easy explanation. The Reddit comments quickly identified it as an electronic cigarette that someone probably lost.

"What use/purpose does this trailer serve? I’m unsure if there are any moving parts, looks to still be in purchased configuration."

Reddit user MagicLantern had the answer for this one. "This holds heavy spools of electrical cable. Probably headed to or from a hurricane damaged area," they said.

"Metallic box with a red light found behind fake electrical outlet."

There was a lot of back and forth in the comment section, but the consensus ended up being that this is some kind of motion sensor light. And OP took it out and inspected it some more and found that to be true!

"Unknown Lab Equipment with Water Intake and two Spouts inside a Plastic Enclosure."

Though there were a few pretty convincing suggestions in the comments, the one that the OP ended up confirming was a water filtration system. Just by looking at it, that makes a lot of sense.

"Small glass rectangles with paint on one side. Found next to a bike path."

Reddit user msf6534 said, "Looks like pieces of a Listello accent or kitchen back splash tiles." According to the OP, lots of construction happened in the area, so these are probably tile scraps. And that honestly makes the most sense here.

"Weird almost bullet shaped gold object with a clickable clear tip."

It's kind of hard to tell what it is, but the Reddit comments seem pretty sure that it's either a small flashlight, or a laser pointer. Either way, it likely emitted some kind of light at some point in the past.

"Small silver cylinder with drill, driver, punch, and tweezers inside. case turns into the handle for the tools. Repair kit of some kind?"

This one was another really easy one to solve. According to Reddit user badasscdub, "It’s a compact multi tool, it’s for general use." Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

"Any idea why this ceramic bowl has a slot?"

Something tells me you aren't supposed to be putting soup in that bowl...

Luckily, there are a lot of very smart people who hang around this sub. Most of the comments on this post pointed to this being an egg yolk/white separator. That makes perfect sense!

"I saw this driving home today. It was above a street light and there was only one of them. It's metal and red, but doesn't look quite like a traffic camera, because those aren't allowed where I live."

No, not a camera, but probably a siren. Alarms like this are pretty common for different natural disasters, but it looks like this one is most likely for tsunami warnings.

"Heavy unbalanced hammer that’s super awkward to hold. Weighs quite a bit."

There's at least one person in the world who knows what this thing is, and that person is Reddit user Collarsmith:

That is a file cutter's hammer, also known as a dogshead hammer. No one makes files by hand any more, so they're a bit obscure. They are more commonly used and sold as saw-filer's hammers today.

"What is this thing? Penny-sized rubber found by a filing cabinet."

Reddit user DeceasedRichEvans really came in clutch here: "Maybe worn out buffers between the drawer and back of the cabinet? So the drawers can't bash metal on metal when closing?"

It's so obvious now, even though it doesn't really look like that at first glance.

"What are these slits on the amber/green boxes of SOME traffic lights (UK). The next set of lights about 30 yards away don't have them."

Reddit user ThirtyPointZero had the answer to this one: "They are so traffic at different junctions with their own set of lights can’t see them and get confused." So they're probably for those super weird intersections that only exist to confuse people.

"2m long thing with a thin and long mirror on it and wheels underneath, next to a parking lot."

Sometimes, the right answer is one that you wouldn't really expect, but that seems pretty obvious in hindsight. In this case, titanoterrror on Reddit identified this object as a sunglasses display. So obvious, yet not obvious at all.
