Woman Divides The Internet By Grating Egg On Her Spaghetti

There are plenty of acceptable ways to eat spaghetti bolognese. Some people prefer chopped-up mushrooms in the sauce, while others choose to adorn their pasta in a mountain of shredded parmesan cheese.

Then there are those, like TikTok user nurse_emma_ who prefer to flip the script entirely. What Emma enjoys most on her spaghetti is a grated hard-boiled egg, and as you can probably guess — it has the internet totally divided.

There are certain dishes that tend to polarize people.

For instance, there are those who believe firmly that pineapple on pizza is one of the greatest gifts ever bestowed upon humanity. Then there are those who would rather eat their own shoes than have to pick off tiny pieces of fruit from their pie.

Much the same can be said about spaghetti; people tend to have very concrete ideas that must be adhered to in order to properly label a dish spaghetti bolognese.

Recently, TikTok user nurse_emma_ posted a video detailing the manner in which she prepares her favorite dish.

Everything seems to be going as it should until Emma decides to pull out a cheese grater and one hardboiled egg. She then proceeds to grate the entire thing over the top of her pasta:

"I haven't seen anyone else do this," Emma said. "So I thought I would finally get an answer and see if anyone else does it." The video concludes with Emma asking "Does anyone think this is strange or is this normal? Please let me know."

Of course it's strange, Emma! Would you have even asked if you didn't already know the answer?

Sure, grated egg on spaghetti bolognese may sound utterly disgusting, but to each their own, right? Wrong. It turns out that the majority of TikTok users are anything but OK with Emma's odd choice of topping.

Since Emma first posted the video to her account, it's garnered more than 88,000 plays. The comments section is awash with TikTok trolls who can't wait to offer up their two cents on the subject.

Many were quick to point out the obvious answer to Emma's question.

I suppose if you have to ask yourself or anyone around you "is this normal," chances are — you already know the answer. And while it's true that grating egg on top of spaghetti bolognese may be uncommon, that doesn't necessarily make it wrong, does it?

What if putting a hardboiled egg on top makes the entire dish taste even better, would you be brave enough to try and put that query to the test?

Others held firm in their disbelief and said that what Emma was doing should be illegal.

It's a little bit of a stretch to say what Emma is doing should be illegal, but I can certainly understand where this TikTok user is coming from.

Also, what are you supposed to do with the cheese grater once you're done? How do you avoid tiny pieces of egg transferring to a block of cheese and vice versa? And Do people even have more than one cheese grater in their household? I have so many questions.

However, there are some who seem to agree with what Emma is doing.

One such TikTok user commented, "Basically my dad brought me up with this, so this was normal." They went on to say that "His mum did it and it's been passed down the generations, so until I had done this video I hadn't realised[sic] it wasn't normal."

Another user remarked that this was the way they'd always eaten the dish and that they couldn't imagine ever eating spaghetti bolognese without a grated egg.

Emma's video is reminiscent of another recent TikTok food debate regarding grated chicken.

If you thought that grating an egg on top of spaghetti was strange, just wait until you see this TikTok user grate two whole chicken breasts in order to make pizza! I get queazy just thinking about the salmonella spread.

Have you ever tried grated egg on bolognese? Do you ever put the egg (grated or not) into your favorite dish in order to enrich the flavor? Make sure to leave a comment below and let us know!
