10+ Celebrities Who Quit Social Media Due To Harassment

Social media is a great way for celebrities to connect with their fans, but as we all know, these platforms also have their negative sides.

While disagreeing with celebrities and critiquing them or their work is totally okay, it's never all right to harass people.

Unfortunately, trolling and harassment got so intense for these 10+ celebrities that they decided to quit social media.

Millie Bobbie Brown

In 2018, the actress was 14-years-old, and she became the center of a homophobic meme saying that she herself was homophobic.

Even though she was barely a teen, she received a lot of hate, and she had to delete her Twitter because of it.

Ed Sheeran

The popular and successful musician had to leave Twitter after he received hate and harassment.

It all started because some Lady Gaga fans thought Sheeran had said something rude about Gaga during an interview.

While things were taken out of context, this didn't stop some fans from going too far.

Leslie Jones

There are a lot of trolls on Twitter, and some of them are more potentially scary than others.

Leslie Jones had to leave Twitter because she became the target of right-wing trolls who hurled racist slurs her way.

However, she thankfully came back to the platform in 2016.

Zayn Malik

Zayn does use Twitter again now, but there was a time in 2012 when he deleted his account.

Before doing so, he tweeted, “The reason i don’t tweet as much as i use to, is because I’m sick of all the useless opinions and hate that i get daily goodbye twitter. My fans that have something nice to say can tweet me on the one direction account, x.”

Will Poulter

The actor received so much hater after acting in Black Mirror: Bandersnatch that he decided to step away from Twitter.

He released a statement on Twitter to his fans thanking them for support, but he also hinted at the constant negativity being too hard to deal with.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber has many fans, but he also has some haters. Back in 2016, he was tired of fans harassing his girlfriend at the time, Sofia Richie.

He told fans to knock it off or he would go private, but he ended up just deleting his Instagram for a few months.

Pete Davidson

After Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson ended their engagement, many fans weren't very happy with Davidson and came after him on social media.

Because of these negative comments, he left. He even told Insider that the internet can be an "evil place."

Iggy Azalea

Body shaming is a real problem in society, and it's sad that some people take to shaming others for how they look.

After Azalea posted a picture on vacation, she got slammed with comments about the way she looked.

Because of this, she decided to step away and let her management team run her Twitter.

Cardi B

During a 2018 interview, Azelia Banks had some pretty mean things to say about Cardi B.

The comments upset Cardi B so much that she briefly deleted her Instagram account. But, this break didn't last for too long before she was back to posting.

Josh McDermitt

AMC

Sometimes, fans who are upset about something on a favorite show or film take things out on the actor even though what happened isn't their fault.

The Walking Dead actor quit social media after fans were harassing him over the things his character, Eugene, did.

Chrissy Tiegen

Chrissy Teigen is well-known for her Twitter presence, but she also often deals with trolls and harassment.

In 2014, she posted about a shooting incident and spoke against gun violence.

The backlash she received over these tweets prompted her to leave the platform for a time.

Kelly Marie Tran

One of the most infamous and ugly cases of Twitter harassment of a celebrity happened to Kelly Marie Tran after starring in the latest Star Wars trilogy.

She was harassed and trolled by people who were upset about an Asian American woman being in a prominent role.

Daisy Ridley

It's unfortunate that there is a subset of Star Wars fans that have committed themselves to harass diverse celebrities from the franchise.

Ridley left all social media platforms, but the main reason she left was after tweeting about gun regulations and receiving hate for these comments.

Adele

While Adele does have social media now, she had to quit Twitter back in 2012 because of harassment over a picture of her baby.

After posting a picture of her baby son, she dealt with threats against her son's life. It was really sad, and we are sorry that anyone would ever have to deal with that.

Ariel Winter

While the Modern Family star was active on Instagram for a while, she eventually decided to delete her Twitter account and step away from social.

Her team gave a statement to Entertainment Tonight that read, "Ariel has taken a break from Twitter and engaging with commenters on her other platforms because of the constant negativity she experiences."
