A pretty strange story came out of Brazil recently. A young woman, just 20 years old, was found dead on a bus.
The really bizarre part is that she had 26 iPhones stuck to her body. Literally glued on. She was traveling alone and things took a dark turn somewhere along the way.
The woman became critically ill during her bus journey
The bus made a stop at a restaurant in Paraná, which is almost in the middle of Brazil.
That’s when she started having a really hard time breathing. Some say she may have had a seizure, and then went into cardiac arrest right there.
Emergency services tried to save her life
Paramedics came as fast as they could. They tried CPR for 45 minutes straight.
Sadly, it wasn’t enough. She didn’t make it.
Authorities made a startling discovery after her death
Now here’s where things got weird. After she died, police looked through her stuff and realized something wasn’t right.
They found a bunch of iPhones literally stuck to her body. And her bags were packed with even more strange things.
A post-mortem revealed dozens of hidden items
Later, a post-mortem exam showed she had dozens of packages strapped to her.
There were 26 phones on her body, and more phones and bottles of alcohol were stuffed inside her luggage.
Investigators suspect an attempt at smuggling
That’s when a theory started going around. Authorities believe she might’ve been trying to smuggle stuff from one city to another.
She was headed from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo, and all the stuff on her pretty much backed up the idea of illegal trafficking.
Forensics and federal authorities are now involved
Her body was sent to the Forensic Medical Institute for a deeper look. All the phones and items in her bags were taken in too.
“The 26 cell phones that were glued to her body were seized and sent to the Federal Revenue Service.”
Cause of death remains unclear
Even now, they’re still not totally sure what actually killed her. The police are waiting on the full forensic report.
There’s talk she might’ve had a seizure, which could explain the breathing problems. Medics think her heart probably stopped after she couldn’t breathe.
Authorities are still investigating
They haven’t shared her name yet, since the investigation’s still going. But they did confirm that sniffer dogs didn’t find any drugs on her.
Cops told Brazilian news outlet Globo: “The Paraná Civil Police are investigating the case and awaiting the conclusion of forensic reports to clarify the cause of death.”
They added: “According to preliminary information, the woman, who was alone, was traveling from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo.”
