How a funeral goes can depend a lot on the wishes of the deceased, but if there’s one time that we can expect everyone to be on their best behavior, that’s usually the first event that comes to mind.
But just because they don’t tend to feature the open bars or protracted planning sessions that weddings do, that doesn’t guarantee that they’ll be any more drama-free than their cheerier counterparts.
And while that drama can sometimes result after the person the deceased preemptively banned from their funeral shows up, the unfortunate truth is that the guests who are supposed to be there can end up ruining it to a much worse degree.
The story we’re about to go over today marks such an occasion, but there’s a particularly rough irony behind why the woman responsible for the mess did what she did.
While the woman we’re about to hear from was attending her brother-in-law’s wedding, her husband Dante collapsed from a ruptured brain aneurysm and almost instantly passed away.

As she explained in a Reddit post , the brother-in-law named Andres took this loss particularly hard and appeared to have been losing sleep by the time he arrived at Dante’s wake with his new wife Bea.
And while Bea had visited each night of the wake and offered her condolences, her conversations with a woman took a turn after she described how terrible it was for Dante to die on the most important day of her life.
The woman expressed her devastation and said they had been careful and saw their doctor often when they first learned about his condition.

But as she relayed, “Bea cut me off and asked me ‘so you mean you knew about the aneurysm?'”
She then told the woman that she wouldn’t have invited her or Dante if she had known about his illness and blamed them for ruining her wedding.
This was not only because the reception was cut short, but because Andres was too anxious to “focus on his new wife.”
In the woman’s words, “I told her to leave before I forget that she was ever my friend. She didn’t listen and continued telling me how expensive her wedding was and that by ruining it, I owe her half of the expenses.”

This doubling down prompted the woman to shout at her to get over herself, which drew concerned and upset reactions for her in-laws, who wondered why a scene was erupting at their son’s wake.
The woman didn’t tell them what Bea had said at the time, but Andres did after they fought about the incident and moved their honeymoon.
Although the woman feels right to be angry at Bea, she doesn’t want her relationship with her other in-laws to suffer for as long as this rift exists between them.

But the Reddit community she reached out to didn’t think it was incumbent on her to make those amends as she wasn’t at fault.
As one user said , “You are under no obligation to go out of your way to socialize with someone who refuses to acknowledge their breathtaking insensitivity and self-centeredness.”
In the words of another who was incensed by Bea’s demand to pay for half the wedding, “I still can’t believe how she made a family death all about herself and how inconvenient it was for her.”
