Dog vs. Cousin: Who Won the Throne? ️
In this unusual family feud, the battle lines were drawn over an armchair. On one side, there was Sierra, the aging golden retriever with arthritis, who had claimed the armchair as her own. On the other, the cousin with mobility issues who demanded the wide, comfortable seat. Despite the cousin’s insistence and some family members’ support, our host stood firm, refusing to displace Sierra from her beloved spot. The party went on, but not without tension and a few choice words aimed at the unimpressed Sierra. So, who do you think deserved the armchair? Let’s see what the internet has to say… ️

“NTA. She’s not entitled to demand whatever she wants in her host’s home. All she had to do was make an extra effort.”

NTA: Chair is a dog’s bed and toilet, not for sitting

“NTA We have a 14yr old yellow lab with hips that are starting to go bad, she’s also highly anxious about anything that isn’t part of her regular day. She has her own spot on the couch with her own pillow. Her memory foam bed is at the foot of our bed, she’s earned her spots in the house because it’s **her** house. Most of the time, she gets down when company is here because she’s a food whore and wants to circle the house, go into the kitchen and check out what’s going on and see who has what, but if someone/anyone was hollering at her, waving their arms like that at her, they’d be out of this house so fast they wouldn’t know what his them. We have a limited amount of time with her left and no-one, I mean *no-one* is going to make the rest of her time with us stress driven, she’s just as much a part of our family as anyone else.”

NTA for not making the dog move (I understand having a hard time getting up/sitting down but WHY would she want to sit on a dog piss chair?!). But … maybe it’s time to decide if your dog has enough quality of life. When our last golden got sick (f***ing cancer), our vet told us there are three things that make a dog a dog, and if they lose any one of those things, it’s time to think about maybe saying goodbye: The ability to walk, the ability to potty outside, the ability to eat. Ours stopped eating. We were hoping we’d get more time with her but I realized I couldn’t make her suffer just because I didn’t want to let go. I couldn’t stand the thought of her being in pain or suffering a second longer than she had to (she would try to eat, she just couldn’t, it would literally fall out of her mouth … it was f***ing terrible).
> she kept loudly cursing at my dog every few moments and waving her arms around to try and scare Sierra off the armchair.
What the f***ing f***. That would have been the point where I would have told her she had to leave.
NTA, dogs love their safe space, don’t compromise it!
