Taking the bus everyday at the same time creates a strange sense of community among the riders. You may not know the name of the guy that gets off at the stop before you, but he always says hi and keeps a seat saved for you on the busy days.
Usually, your bus family is entirely human, but for one neighborhood in Seattle, a mastiff/lab mix named Eclipse is a regular.
Decked out in a red harness with her very own bus pass clipped to it, Eclipse boards the bus daily to visit her favorite off leash dog park.
It started a few years ago, when Eclipse’s human Jeff Young began taking her to the park. She clearly paid attention to the routine, because one day Jeff was distracted when the bus arrived and Eclipse left him behind to go herself.
The bus driver knew them and made sure Eclipse made it safely to the usual stop for the park.
Jeff caught the next bus and met her there.
Over time, she began catching the bus more and more on her own, always getting off at her stop, spending a couple hours playing with furry friends, and then catching the bus back home.
The route’s regulars all recognize Eclipse and give her tons of love when they see her.
Though I’d imagine that it’s a shock for newbies when a b*******k dog requests a window seat so that she can see her stop.
As for the transport office, they’ve embraced Eclipse as an unofficial mascot.
She even got to star in a promotional video for the service and has a fan club called the Ecliptomaniacs.
It’s pretty safe to say that Eclipse is one very good dog.
