Uh oh! It looks like Billie Eilish’s brother, Finneas O’Connell, is in hot water after sending out a tweet that has sparked some major backlash about nepotism and privilege.
Okay, so, obviously you know who Billie Eilish is. She is all anyone can seem to talk about lately!
She made Grammy’s history this year at just 18 years old. So, yeah, she’s kind of a big deal.

She is the youngest solo performer to ever win album of the year. Up until last night, the record holder had been Taylor Swift, who won best album at age of 20 for “Fearless.”
Not only was she the youngest person to ever win Album Of The Year, she was also the first woman to win all her other awards in the same year!
She historically won Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the year and Best New Artist all at the same show!
Anyways, if you’ve heard of Billie then you’ve probably heard of her brother, Finneas O’Connell.
As she also mentioned at the Grammy’s, she and Finneas have been collaborating on her music for ages — he is a significant cog in the Billie Eilish machine.
Unfortunately, fans are beginning to turn on Finneas after he tweeted out advice on how to become successful.
I should mention that while, yes, he and Billie have become successful in the music business, they didn’t exactly start at the bottom of the ladder.
It is fair to say that both Finneas and Billie had a slight edge on many other artists trying to break into the industry, as both of their parents formerly worked as actors and musicians themselves.
So, Finneas’ tweet was not received well by the general public, to say the least.
“A piece of advice to young creatives,” Finneas tweeted.
“’Shooting your shot’ is promoted widely and I think honestly, it’s a little overrated.”
“Work super hard alone or with your closest friends.”
“Make [expletive] so good it speaks for itself. Don’t pester people to work with you, let them come to you,” he concluded .
His tweet was presumably meant to be uplifting and inspire artists to work harder, but instead, it provoked criticism.
Fans slammed Finneas for sounding pretentious and privileged.
Another fan sounded off, pointing out that Finneas was lucky enough to be born into a family that supported his music career.
Sadly, that is not the case for every aspiring musician.
Others commented that the idea of assuming people and opportunities will come knocking on your door is a privileged way of thinking.
If you want something, you have to go get it! Don’t wait for it to fall into your lap by chance.
This person mentioned that it’s easy to believe that opportunities will “come to you” if your sister is Billie Eilish and your parents already had their foot in the door before you were even born.
If only we could all be so lucky…
Finneas eventually deleted his tweet, and actually THANKED the people who criticized him for holding him accountable.
This is impressive, not gonna lie. It takes a lot of courage to admit you were wrong, especially on Twitter to nearly 300,000 followers.
The fact that he recognized that he made a mistake and owned up to it is admirable!
Fans praised him for taking the time to apologize to anyone he may have offended with his original statement.
