If you’re looking to add more inclusivity and diversity to your classroom supplies, then you’ll be thrilled to hear about The Crayon Project. They’re dedicated to getting multiracial crayons into classrooms, and they’re doing it for free!
When I was a kid, there was only one skin tone in crayons.
Shades like “flesh,” “n**e,” or “skin,” were often a beige/pinky color, implying that the default shade of skin was white skin. That used to be the norm, but programs like The Crayon Project are changing that.
The Crayon Project was founded by two parents.
Beth Ann and Kevin Bligh decided to found The Crayon Project, “… as a response to various acts of social injustice taking place in the world,” according to their website.
Here’s how it works.
Donors can contribute monetarily to the site, where their donations go towards buying Crayola’s Colors of the World collection. The collection is filled with skin tones to match everyone!
The best part? The supplies are free!
