Modern Family star, Sofia Vergara, is being slammed and called “disrespectful” by fans for posting a “tone deaf” vacation photo on Instagram ahead of Hurricane Dorian.
Hurricane Dorian ripped through the Bahamas, causing deaths, and forcing people to evacuate their homes — abandoning their belongings

“We are in the midst of one of the greatest national crises in our country’s history,” Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said Tuesday .
The impact the hurricane left was extremely devastating.

“Whole neighborhoods were swept by mighty surge higher than anything in memory. Areas above water had catastrophic wind damage. Many deaths reported from drowning, flying debris, & collapsing houses,” hurricane chaser, Josh Morgerman wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, leading up to the hurricane, Sofia Vergara was making the most of her vacation — trying not to let the hurricane dampen (no pun intended) her mood.

She shared a few posts of herself having drinks with friends — presumably, somewhere that would be affected by the hurricane.
“Esperando a Dorian,” she captioned the post, meaning, “waiting for Dorian”.

Fans were not impressed by Sofia’s cavalier attitude toward a natural disaster that was about to ruin the lives of many people.
Fans immediately called her out for making such a tasteless comment openly on social media.

This person admitted to being a fan of Sofia, but couldn’t not call her out on her ignorance.
This person made a much bleaker, more morbid comment on Sofia’s photo.

They pointed out that while she was having the time of her life, drinking with her friends — not having to worry about the storm affecting her personally, others were losing their lives.
Others think that this was a quintessential example of ignorance made by celebrities.

He accused Sofia of lacking the humility needed to see the bigger picture and the severity of the situation.
Even before the hurricane hit, many people were aware that the damage was expected to be catastrophic.

This fan warned Sofia that people were at risk of losing their lives to the storm and that it should not be taken lightly.
Fans did their best to educate Sofia on what hurricanes of this particular caliber could result in.

Although, Sofia does live in Miami, Florida — so, you’d think she would already know and understand what kind of threat a hurricane can pose.
Another person pointed out that Sofia’s seemingly apathetic demeanor toward the hurricane could very well be because she is famous.

With fame often comes money, arrogance, and complacency if you’re not careful, amirite?
To make matters worse, Sofia later posted a photo evacuating the area, along with her friends, in a private jet.

Naturally, this upset fans even more.
“Bye bye Dorian!!,” she captioned the photo.
Fans became even more up in arms over Sofia’s second post.

I mean, it is a bit braggy to — at any point — share a photo of yourself being whisked away on your private jet. But even more so given the circumstances.
However, this fan brought up a very good point.

Floridians are known for throwing “hurricane parties” prior to and sometimes even during hurricanes. It’s tradition, people!
Others don’t think it’s fair for anyone to be offended by Sofia’s choice to have fun before the hurricane hit.

Ultimately, she was prepared to kick rocks before everything hit the fan, and it’s not her fault if other people are not.
Sofia has yet to comment on any of the backlash, or take down her captions from Instagram.

Do you think that her comments were “tone deaf”?
Could she have chosen a more appropriate or considerate captions for her photos?
Or are fans overreacting to what was probably just a bad joke?
Sofia isn’t the only one in hot water for reportedly tone deaf pictures.

Isabelle Shee, a golfer and influencer, shared this photo of her smiling in a bikini on a beach, and tagged the location as “Nassau, Bahamas.”
“Devastated to hear about the impact of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas…” she wrote as the caption.

She added, “Praying for a quick recovery” with the prayer hands emojis. People in the comments immediately pointed out that sharing a smiling, happy picture seemed insensitive and also looked more like an excuse to share a bikini pic.
The feedback was strong enough that Shee added an amendment to her post.

She wrote, “disclaimer: this was taken AT the Bahamas back in January. I’m sorry I don’t have any unhappy photos in the Bahamas as all my memories there are good.”
Influencer Tatiele Polyana also came under fire for sharing a similar post.

Sharing this shot of her in the Bahamas, she originally captioned the post, “My heart is broken, a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to see this immensity of clear water, truly a PARADISE, how sad my God to see the desperation of the people in the videos, so many houses, cars, hospitals and places all being devastated by this damn hurricane! Let’s pray for #Bahamas.”
She soon changed her caption after negative responses.

She wrote that she had shared this post because, “I wanted to show how beautiful the water is and it seems a paradise really so clear that water is,” and she apologized for seeming like she was trying to promote her body using this tragedy.
Not all celebrity news about Hurricane Dorian has been negative.

Comedian Tyler Perry recently made headlines when it was revealed that he had been using his own personal seaplane in order to deliver supplies to the Bahamas.
It is reported that the plane has been bringing shipments of water, juice, sleeping bags, diapers, various hygiene products and a lot of other basic necessities.

It was also reported that on the return trip, the plane carried 7 passengers back with it, including small children, a pregnant woman, and those who needed medical attention.
Perry shared a post on Instagram that was much more well-received.

He wrote, “To all the incredible people of the Bahamas who have welcomed me and called me an adoptive son, I want you to know that I am watching closely, and as soon as I can, I will be there to do whatever I can to help you rebuild stronger and better. You’re not only in my heart and my prayers, you’re in my blood. God bless you. Stay Bahamas strong. The sun will shine agin.”
