Whenever a friend or coworker begins listing off all the errands, chores, and events they are going to be tackling on the weekend, I’m always at a loss for how to respond.
Am I supposed to commiserate with them about how overwhelming modern life is and that there just isn’t enough time for proper rest anymore? Or are they seriously looking for praise over how busy and “full” their life is?
Afterwards, they’re like, “So what are your plans this weekend?”
Then I’m forced to admit that I intend to do the absolute minimum in terms of chores, wear comfy pajamas, and rewatch *Sailor Moon* for the hundredth time since childhood.
What can I say? I have very specific self-care needs.
Isn’t that what the weekend is supposed to be for, though?
You work all week so that you can have your days of rest at the end of it? Personally, I prefer to complete the larger errands and chores right after work on weekdays for that very reason.
I’m still in Go Mode, so before my productivity brain catches onto the fact that the day is over, I get a few home tasks done.
Frankly, people who choose to do their grocery shopping mid-afternoon on a Saturday scare me, and judging by how crowded and noisy the stores are, they are legion.
No thank you. I will do my shopping on Tuesday evenings with the elderly ladies bussed over from the retirement community.
I actually put a fair bit of thought and preparation in ahead of time to have my weekends free for relaxing. So stop judging me because I choose to fill my Saturday with comfort and nostalgia.
