In life, we all live with regrets . Some of us have more than others, but there are times when we look back and realize there are far too many things we wish we did not do. If we could turn back time, there are a lot of things we would stop or prevent . So, if we can share it with the youth, maybe we can help them from making those mistakes that we have made.
Not slowing down.
“I wish I hadn’t rushed everything. I spent my 20s always looking ahead, so much so that I don’t think I ever just ENJOYED being a young adult. Take the time to actively appreciate right now,” said Total_Conclusion521 .
Going too hard too soon.
shaunie_tsunami said that one rule of thumb is that if you eat an edible and think that it doesn’t work, don’t eat another two or three within the next few minutes. You will regret it. Wait it out.
Not taking care of their back.
“Look after your back. Work on core strength and sit up straight. If you slouch while gaming, you will start having issues in your mid-30s. Try to exercise and keep up a general level of health. It’s way harder to lose weight and build fitness than it is to keep it at a certain level,” said Icy-Donkey-9036 .
Putting too much work into relationships.
LordOdin99 said that it’s okay to walk away from relationships when they do not serve you anymore. They are work, and you have to put work into them, but you shouldn’t have to work too hard to keep them alive.
Not saying “no” enough.
makeupandmakitas said that she learned “no” is a complete sentence and you should use it however many times you need to use it to make yourself feel comfortable. Do not let people force you into doing things.
Living in the past.
dellaevaine shared that being too hung up on the past can drown you. It’s okay to move on and move forward, you don’t need to dwell on it for too long to the point where you begin living back there again.
Trying to change other people.
damnredditaccount said that one regret they had was trying to change other people to feel happier. In all honesty, the only person you can truly try to change is yourself. Let everyone else be who they are.
Not putting enough money away towards retirement.
JMCrown said the biggest piece of advice he would give his younger self is to put money away for retirement. Don’t blow all of your money thinking you need everything right now. Things will be needed later on.
Not making enough connections.
MisterAmmosart said who you know is way more important than what you know, no matter how unfortunate that may seem to hear. Make the networking connections you can when you can.
Paying for other people’s c**p.
luckeegurrrl5683 shared that you should never let a BF/GF convince you to give them money to pay their own bills and help them out constantly. They clearly do not have money to pay you back.
Not realizing when the “last time” was.
“I wish I’d been aware of how many “last times” I was going to have, and how most of the time I had no idea it was going to be a last time. Have a group of people you hang out with regularly? Go bowling every Tuesday? Have an event you all go to annually? You are going to have a last time and you aren’t going to see it coming,” shared moonbunnychan .
Worrying too much about being “weird.”
“Don’t worry about being weird. You don’t have to fit in. Just find other weird people and hang with them. Trust me there’s lots of us. Wave your weird around like a beacon to other weirdos and we will come,” said Naughtyspider .
Not having enough compassion.
“Have more compassion for people that are struggling. Life has a way of kicking everyone’s a*s from time to time. If your a*s is currently not being kicked, be sure to savor it. Help others through hard times knowing one day you will have hard times too. It’s not a race and together we can make our time here a little bit better,” said timmasterson .
Letting their body go.
stevenburnett shared you should never let your body go. Take care of it. Your health is something that truly matters and can truly hurt you and kill you down the road. If you don’t treat it right, it will catch up to you in the end.
Not saving enough money.
yammy69696 shared that they wish they had saved more money instead of partying and spending it so much. It may seem fun at the time, but all of that partying catches up to you financially in the end.
