Some food hacks, like this one and this , have been as smooth as butter. But others? Like this and this ? Not so much.
So it’s not surprising that people don’t know how to feel about this next hack. It’s called a butter board and it’s the internet’s latest food obsession that some people really love to hate.
Even if you don’t know how to spell it, everyone has heard of a charcuterie board.

This is when you arrange a ton of delicious meats, jellies, and cheeses in an aesthetically-pleasing way on a cutting board, or some other wooden board.
The result is a perfect snack to munch on during a dinner party, a wedding, or your weekly wine and cheese girl’s night.
This one is almost too pretty to eat! But of course, we would nibble on everything here.
This is the perfect grazing table.
You can’t say that you went to a wedding unless you went back and forth to the charcuterie table at least a hundred times. It would be a sin to let all those meats and cheese go to waste.
As delicious as charcuterie boards are, one complaint people have had is about the mess.

Think about it: you’re putting your hands all up in the food to grab some onto your napkin or plate.
When the food sticks together, there really isn’t a polite way of grabbing it.
Despite these complaints, people still continue to spread out all different kinds of jellies.

There has also been a new trend that — gasp! — has made people question whether a delicious and gorgeous charcuterie really is their butter half, after all.
We’re talking about the internet’s latest obsession: butter boards.

It was reportedly started by Brooklyn-based food influencer, Justine Doiron . The concept is that you spread a pack of butter over a board and then sprinkle different toppings over it. It’s not meant to be healthy, in case you’re wondering.
Eating a whole stick of butter never is.
In Justine’s video, which quickly blew up on TikTok (as did our waistband just by watching her make it), she spread big gallops of butter all over a wooden board. Then, she sprinkled salt all over.
To complete the butter board, she added toppings like lemon zest, red onion, and herbs.
You then serve it with bread, which you use to dip into the butter board. Other popular toppings include honey, red pepper jelly, figs, and more.
Ever since Justine’s video went viral, all people can talk about are butter boards.

The reactions from the internet have been completely mixed, with some people in love with the idea, some confused, and some looking at it in absolute disgust.
“During Covid everyone wore gloves, masks, and stay 6 feet away. Now we’re sharing tables of bite-size food and scraping butter off the same plate,” one wrote on Justine’s video.
“Is this not a lot of butter,” another added. Yes, yes it is.
“I can’t wait to spend $16 on this at a restaurant in 6 months,” added a third.
Those who love it already have some ideas to make it even better.
“Hear me out – 4 sections, sweet/savory/lemony/garlicky,” one woman wrote.
