Very few things on this earth are able to withstand the test of time. In most cases, what begins as something good has a tendency to change and evolve over the years.
Sooner or later, we all become what we hate . To get a better understanding of what I’m talking about, have a look below as people share good things that have turned bad .
Cooking websites.
Here’s a message for all you who have your own cooking website or blog: absolutely no one cares about your preamble or clever anecdotes.
Just give us the recipe! We came here to feed, not to read.
Hollywood.
I’m old enough to remember when Hollywood actually had new ideas! Nowadays, everything is either a sequel, a reboot, or a remake.
Enough is enough already. Can we please allow some deviation from the current superhero paradigm?! I’m not asking for much.
MTV.
“It was so good back in the 90s. Actual music videos, shows that featured artists, MTV Unplugged , Daria , Beavis and Butthead , Aeon Flux , TRL , Celebrity Death Match … Then Pimp My Ride and Cribs were pretty fun though it was the start of reality tv style shows.” – Reddit u/Sure-Top-4676
The ideas surrounding hustle culture.
I think we can all agree that hustle culture began as a positive venture but has quickly transmogrified into something totally unrecognizable. Your hustle should never come at the expense of your sleep or your mental health.
Streaming services.
“Streaming services online,” writes Reddit user Brandon74130. “Netflix was op back in the day, now you have to have 15 different services if you want to watch all your shows.”
I’m currently subscribed to Disney +, Netflix, and Prime Video — what about you?
Flying in an airplane.
It seems that every year, airplane seats get smaller and airplane food gets worse and worse. Pretty soon, planes won’t have seats at all and we’ll all be forced to tie ourselves onto a waist-rope tangling from the ceiling.
YouTube as a whole.
YouTube used to be a haven from ads and commercials. Now, I feel like it’s all they have! I can’t even get through a 15-minute workout video without having to click through at least three different ads.
The overall quality of air.
This past summer was absolutely disgusting. On most days throughout the month of July, it felt as if you couldn’t even breathe. Thank goodness that fall (and fall weather) is right around the corner, I can’t take much more of this!
The History Channel.
Reddit user mrsbundleby says “I used to watch it in the 2000s. Now it’s all swamp people and aliens.”
I’m not the biggest fan of Swamp People either, but Hillbilly Handfishin’ is another story. It’s terrifying and captivating in the strangest of ways.
Society’s overall mental health.
Part of why it seems that society’s mental health is so poor is that this is one of the first times in human history that we’ve been able to have an open and honest conversation on the topic. A global pandemic certainly didn’t help, either.
My knees.
Have you seen that video of Tom Segura trying to dunk a basketball? I warn you — it’s graphic. But if you can stomach watching the fall, you’ll get a perfect encapsulation of precisely what I’m talking about.
The housing market.
I live in London, ON; a city of roughly 400,000 people. The average cost of a home in my once humble city has now skyrocketed to over $600,000. There’s quite literally an entire generation of young people who will never be able to afford their homes now.
Electronics.
Nowadays, if you get 3-5 years out of any appliances, be it a TV or a laptop — you should consider yourself lucky. Nothing is made to last anymore, least of all your electronic devices. They’re one of the biggest contributors to throwaway culture .
Appliances.
Back in the 40s and 50s, appliances were made to last. My nana’s fridge is probably 20 years older than I am and it still works.
The ironic part is that all of those quality companies who built quality products wound up putting themselves out of business!
Social media.
One of the greatest experiments of the 21st-century has been social media. But what began as an honest venture has now evolved into a terrifying hydra of unimaginable sorts. It’s no longer society’s escape, but rather its captor.
