NASCAR fans held their breath when beloved driver Ryan Newman got into a serious accident on Monday while nearing the finish line of the Daytona 500.
According to “CNN,” the accident occurred after 42-year-old Newman had taken the lead during the final lap of Daytona 500 on Monday evening.
They report that driver Ryan Blaney hit Newman’s bumper, causing his vehicle to spin into the outside wall. Newman’s car bounced off the wall, flipped into the air and dropped back down in front of the car driven by Corey LaJoie.
LaJoie was unable to avoid the accident and hit Newman’s car, causing the car to go airborne again, this time up and over LaJoie’s car before landing upside down.
Newman’s car proceeded to skid on its roof in a display of sparks and flames across the finish line before finally stopping on the track’s apron.
Doctor’s indicated that Neman had serious injuries but was not in a life threatening condition.
