The animated children’s television show My Little Pony is due to air an episode featuring a lesbian couple on Saturday, confirming that the characters of Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty are not sisters but are in fact a same-sex couple, Cafe Mom reported.
‘My Little Pony’ recently announced that the show’s ninth season would also be its last.
The series’ final season began airing on April 6 and includes an installment tiled, “The Last Crusade”, which features the revelation about Aunt Holiday and Auntie Loftie.

In the upcoming episode, the two become the official guardians of the pony Scootaloo.
This is in the absence of the character’s own parents who are often away for work, leaving one of the show’s most beloved characters alone. Fans have long questioned the existence of Scootaloo’s biological parents who have never appeared on the series, so this episode will serve as a final answer before the show concludes.
It has also long been believed that Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty are two sisters who merely took to taking care of their niece, Scootaloo.
However, the new episode reveals that this is actually incorrect and the two female ponies are actually a couple. Yes, a couple. Not two “gal pals” sharing a house or two sisters bringing up a child together. It’s been confirmed they’re definitely romantically involved.
These two characters first made their debut in 2017 in the “My Little Pony” universe through the book “Ponyville Mysteries: Riddle of the Rusty Shoe.”
Fans of the series were under the impression these two were sisters, that is until the show’s writer/producer Michael Vogel retweeted an illustration of the characters and basically told fans that no, no they aren’t sisters.
This prompted one user to ask if the characters are lesbians in the book.
And if Vogel’s answer doesn’t clarify things for people then I really don’t know what will at this point.
Although he did follow that tweet up with a [second](, emphasizing his point: “When I say ‘cute couple’ I’m saying that Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty are a cute couple. Yes.”
Now Vogel has taken to Twitter once again and confirmed that the ponies are a couple for anyone somehow still not sure.
As he put it, the showrunners are doing their part to “bring more EQuality to EQuestria.”
This marks a huge step forward for the television series and a particularly timely one, as the LGBTQ+ positive episode will air right in the middle of June, which is widely recognized as Pride Month.
‘My Little Pony’ is joining several other cartoon shows to feature a LGBTQ+ couple.
In 2017, the Disney Junior program Doc McStuffins revealed two interracial lesbian moms in an episode, which was a personal win for show creator Chris Nee, a gay mom herself.
Just recently, the long-running series Arthur made headlines after school teacher Mr. Ratburn came out as gay with an entire episode dedicated to his wedding. The episode was praised for its LGBTQ+ inclusion and message of inclusion for viewers.
Despite all the positive responses, the internet has also shared some negative opinions about the upcoming ‘My Little Pony’ episode.
This person seems to be gravely concerned about the implications of exposing children to a same-sex couple on an animated series in which brightly colored ponies talk to each other and wear clothes and fly.
His Tweet prompted others to reply and defend the series, like this person who wrote that someone needs to break the news to him that ponies aren’t real.
Another gave the best response possible: “Who’s going to tell Lyle about all the gay cartoon characters he isn’t aware exist, any he most likely watched as a child?”
