> my mom kinda thinks I’m TA. But not your father apparently. In anycase, you’re NTA. There are legitimate considerations to be made for an unruly teen who is adjusting poorly to a blending of families. However, she was smashing things, being extremely difficult to be around, and overall a massive jerk. That isn’t bland, “you aren’t my father” rebelliousness, that’s someone outright spiting you and trying to get under your skin. The fact that her mother did nothing to stop her and just said, “give her space, she’s a teen,” was also not helping things. It’s clear she was not making any attempts to smooth the situation and indulging her. Either way, while the situation could have been handled better the fact remains that your step-daughter…probably soon to be ex-step daughter did something intentionally hurtful. That kind of behaviour shouldn’t be condoned, and frankly your wife’s indulgence of it this time was disgusting. Feel free to sue their pants off.
